We booked a table for lunch at Robert Stein Winery, Vineyard & Farm (2A and 2C) a few days in advance. When we arrived on time, we waited at the “wait here to be seated” sign while staff looked over at us but ignored us. Eventually, someone came across only to tell us that other people were already sitting at our reserved table. Instead of fixing the mistake, we were offered seats in a shed out the back near the wine vats — nowhere near the vineyard views or entertainment we had booked for.
When we asked to sit at the table we reserved, the suggestion was to go look at the motorbike museum while they sorted it out. At this point it was 1:30, our kids were hungry, and still nothing was being done. After wasting more time, we discovered the menu we picked up was outdated, and staff were again dismissive. By 2:00, we still had no table, no food, and no service, so we left.
We went to another nearby winery where staff were welcoming and happy to spend time with us and prepare a lunch — a complete contrast to Robert Stein.
Overall, very poor experience: disorganized, unhelpful, and unprofessional. Unfortunately, Robert Stein Winery gets a big thumbs...
Read moreVisited your cellar door on Friday the 15th. We arrived just after 10.30am with my wife and were told by your resident Basil Faulty that as Friday is a busy day we needed to book ahead. I noticed that there was a couple sitting at a table and the group of 8 arrived at 11 am as we were leaving without a bottle to remember you by. While I was browsing the selection and then walked to your counter to look for a price list, your ever so helpful Basil looked at me and turned his back to immerse himself with the couple tasting the whites. After 15 minutes of receiving absolutely no attention, we walked out and headed to the other wineries to a warm welcome and thank you for choosing to stop by. Not knowing what your preferred method of accepting mere peasants strolling in off the street? May I suggest putting a notice on your website so one knows not to bother attempting a drive by on a quiet Friday morning. If this is a misunderstanding on my part and I should have known to just sit down and snap my fingers at Basil to point out our interest in his services, then I apologise. Rather disappointed I couldn't try out your...
Read moreFirstly, I do enjoy Robert Stein wine - the product is great. However, I have had less than positive experiences at the cellar door on 2 occasions. The first, and least pleasant, was when I brought 3 19-20 year old friends here - it was our first winery of the day so we were certainly not drunk. We waited politely to be given a price list, offered a tasting or acknowledged. There was another couple of customers there at the time already tasting, who were being served attentively. I got the impression that because we were young we weren't worth their time - ironic as between us we would have spent about $200. If you would like the kind of cellar door experience where winemakers enthusiastically share a product they're proud of and aren't superficially judgemental of their customers as they're only concerned about potential profit, then I recommend you go elsewhere, or dine at pipeclay pumphouse which is a beautiful experience and where I've always experienced...
