Absolutely brilliant day out. There are so many things to do there that you find yourself on the move constantly to fit it all in. There's four water feature sections: A paddle pool with small water slides for toddlers and preschoolers, a middle sized water playground with about four or five slides graded from tame to quite swirly and fun. Then the adult waterslide complex with four big-ass slides that will probably make you scream for whatever parent you ran to for safety and comfort as a child. (I went on "The Wall" and it was a cross between the Death Star Trench Battle scene in the first Star Wars film and the experience of being born. I didn't scream for my mother, but I did do the Xena: Warrior Princess Battle Cry to gird myself for the drop.) Finally there's the Lagoon, a lovely two-sectioned pool with water features.
The amenities were fantastic. More than one location of changerooms, toilets, showers and lockers. Lots of lawns to set up a shade tent on (do bring one, plus a cart for your stuff). The paths were neat and clean, the slides and the pools were impeccably maintained. Plenty of shaded huts and so forth to rent for parties, barbecues included. Put me in mind to have a party there one day because the place rocks so hard. The food at the café was really lovely (the chips were perfect and the fish was actual fillets of fish in a tempura batter) and there was even a poolside bar at the Lagoon which had the bonus of also selling icecreams. When they say that it's resort style, they mean it. I felt like I was on a holiday, it was wonderful.
The lifeguards and safety staff were on the ball, they did not miss a trick. I saw two small boys bonk heads in the water and one of them choked on a mouthful of water, and as the boy coughed with his mother and brother, a lifeguard came over and checked on the boy. He didn't leave until he was sure the kid was all right, it was awesome. The guards didn't let the kids get up to nonsense, it was very safety orientated. When I went on one of the exceedingly scary slides for the sake of my beloved husband, the staff at the top were so kind and cheery and made me feel absolutely safe. They made sure I was the one that said when we were to go down the slide, and that made all the difference.
There are about five mazes there (I thought there were only three but more kept popping up when we walked around the place) and also a giant chess board, a ring toss game and nine holes of a mini golf course which my kids took great delight in.
When it was time to go, my husband and I stopped with the kids to take a photo. A staff member came over and offered to take the photo for us, which was both unexpected and a beautiful final note for the day.
Overall, yeah, it's gonna cost you a bit if you have a family of four and those kids are over the age of three. But it's really worth it, you totally get what you pay for with the gorgeous layout and incredibly fun slides. You know when you spend money here that you're gonna get a solid good time in return.
My only criticisms? I feel like the café could do with some measures to protect the diners from the flies in the outside dining areas. I understand that Mother Nature is cruel in tooth and claw and cares not for our wishes to drink out coffees and Maxibons in peace, but the constant waving away of flies from both my plate and my kids' was a bit of a dint in the almost flawless experience. Also the Lagoon, as gorgeous as it is, might do with more shade sails when the UV is so ridiculously high. I couldn't swim there for long because of how searing the sun was, and I couldn't take my sunnies off because of how bright it is. Again, something that is more an effect of Mother Nature than any real failing of the park itself. But something they could do something about if they wanted to, I think.
Thanks for the fantastic day, Outback Splash. The perfect end to the summer holidays and a wonderful place to bond with the kids. We'll cherish the memories of the...

Read moreWe attended outback splash on a week day outside of school holidays (Thursday last week). The park was therefore quiet. We had a wonderful time. There was plenty of parking in the shade, no queues for anything, and the pools were lovely and quiet. There are just 4 big slides for adults which was enough for us. The "wedgie" really does give you a wedgie! The "Wall" is pretty epic. "Gold rush" and "black out" are great fun but tamer, for those with a bit of anxiety. The staff member at the top of the slides assisting us was so lovely. The adult pool "lagoon" was beautiful and modern with 2 lifeguards keeping an eye on things. The Bar wasn't open which was a shame, most likely because guest numbers were low, but that meant we had to get our drinks and grub at the entry cafe and carry it over there. Food and drink were pricey, but it is a theme park and this was expected. $25 for hot chips, an ice cream and 2 cokes. (Still a shit load cheaper than the cinemas!) Thankfully the hot chips were fantastic quality and very tasty. Spot on. The grounds are beautiful with lots of mature trees and cockatoos flying around (a lovely sight for international tourists no doubt). We would return to Outback splash for sure, but not on a weekend or in school holidays, queuing up for those slides would not be worth it for us. Without queues you can get your moneys worth here and ride the slides a few times each. It was a very hot day and climbing the stairs at the slide tower was hard yakka, but we did it 7 times because the slides were awesome. The facilities are very modern and no expense has been spared regarding keeping things up to date and maintained, even have a "Bose" sound system for the music to make a great atmosphere. We didn't try the Maze or mini golf as it was hotter than hell. The mini golf looked pretty uninspiring, but I think at least it's included with your ticket price. We thought the lockers were overpriced to rent, so ended up just risking it with our gear. Thankfully had no theft of anything. I think it could be good to have a "no photography" sign around the main pool (as per standard at most public pools nowadays) there was a guy taking photos/videos in there, and with kids and ladies walking around in swimsuits, it just made me uncomfortable. I get the challenge of this though when a business wants social...
