Our annual family camping trip lead us to Bungonia for October long weekend and we were not disappointed.
Camping with four adults and four children ranging from 11yrs old to 4yrs old we appreciated the hot showers and flushing toilets. Showers normally got busy at dusk as there were only 2 showers for the women and 2 for the men. There was also a shower in the disabled toilets although the shower hose had cracked and ended up spraying water all over the toilet.
The use of the outdoor, free, push button gas hotplates (x2) and indoor camp kitchen which consisted of tables, sink, 8x gas flamed hotplates and powerpoints made our camp stay a lot easier. There was also a Lace Monitor who would visit the campground so watch your eggs closely.
With one family comfortably parked n their pop top camper and the other pitching a tent our campsite was becoming more defined. The kids had plenty of room to play, especially on 'pride rock'. There were quick a few bull ants nests so keep an eye out where you pop up your tent.
We attempted the green easy walking track together. I would not recommend this for anyone under 5yrs as it is not flat and the path is very rocky. The kids got very excited to see yet another Lace Monitor on our walk. We made it to Adams lookout and followed the road back to camp as the kids were very tired.
Overall, we had a great trip. The campsite was well established for families and we will definitely be...
Read moreThis review is about the Red Track (Slot Canyon) and White Track hikes. These hikes are challenging, but they are a great deal of fun! The first km or so is steep, but you will find that the further along you go, the more steep it gets. Once you're in the canyon itself, you MIGHT be greeted by water, which you'll have to wade through (sometimes this area is completely dry). Once you made your way through the initial part of the slot canyon, you'll reach the big boulders, and this is where the REAL fun begins. This hike is potentially risky and requires enough fitness to be able to climb up and over boulders and go up and down steep slopes.
I completed this hike in the late Spring (November) and completed the incline during the late-morning on a high-humidity, 30+ degree day. Probably drank 3L of water and sweated about the same. I would recommend this hike for anyone who is a big kid at heart and wants to explore something a little different. You can definitely do this hike without any specific gear, although, I would STRONGLY recommend decent hiking shoes so you do not lose grip on the trail. I would not do this hike...
Read moreWe did the Bungonia Gorge Trail and stopped over to Mass and Grill Cave! This hike in our opinion almost on par with Carnarvon Gorge in central QLD.
Although beautiful and picturesque this hike is not suitable for the faint of heart. Please only attempt the caves if you have appropriate equipments such a head torch etc.
This is a GRADE 5 track that has a very long, steep and slippery slope going into and out of the gorge and the centre is unmarked trail that requires you to scale over, under and between bus size boulders. Please do not attempt this hike unless you are an experienced hiker and do your research first.
There are also some easier hikes and lookouts in the area as well besides this one which are family friendly đ
