Our visit was a surprise birthday present from Paul & Kay-Kay. We flew into Boonah airfield in a Piper Cherokee from Brisbane and were then driven to Bunjurgen Estate to a great welcome from Dave and met 6 other visitors under a tree for a tasting, fruit snacks and a welcome chat. Dave was a great host, revealing the geographical history of the area and his family history, the types of grape grown, and the wines they produce. We toured the sunny slopes to see the vines and the ladies in our party were presented with a bunch of flowers, a real nice touch. Back under the tree with chooks scratching around our feet, more tasting while Dave supervised the barbecue and we lined up for delicious steaks and salad. The wine flowed and the 6 others split into two groups to return to the airfield for a short spin over the area, the view over the scenic rim is amazing, (as they had arrived by road) waving to us below. We made friends with the huge Malamute dogs, and of course made new friends with the other visitors. The Rose wine was superb (I wish I could have brought some home to UK), also the white port. Summing up--- A day to remember, great wine, great Dave, Even if you are in the area,...
Read moreBunjurgen Estate is clearly one of the most authentic wine experiences I've ever had, and I've had plenty of them around the world in my 30+ years of wine industry experience. David is an outstandingly pleasant and urbane host and the service culture of Bunjurgen Estate is a lesson to every QLD tourism business in customer service 101. His method of setting you up under the tree in a truly Alfresco manner to enjoy the glorious Scenic Rim weather, offering tastings of his fully Estate grown wines and regaling his expert knowledge of the vineyard and wines, plus a few good stories thrown in, is a joy to behold. This is a must visit Scenic Rim...
Read moreWhat a little gem! Having toured Australia’s famous wine regions in Margaret River, Yarra and all over South Australia, we were unsure what to expect in Queensland. We were delighted to have stopped off and visit David at Bunjurgen Estate. From the moment we arrived, being met at the car park, until we were waved off at the end, it was obvious that this winery was his passion and he loved to share it with others. This was not just a wine tasting experience but also a history lesson in the region and we all walked away with a deeper appreciation for Queensland wine. You must try the Cherry Port...
