Maybe not the most exiting attraction but when you read about this and other blowholes that are all connected to this one, then the natural wonder of geology really does become more interesting. These holes "breath". Hence the name blow holes. In high pressure weather conditions, air is forced into the underground caverns and as the pressure drops, the air is released again until the pressure underground equals that above ground. So it is possible to feel air being gently released from the blowhole and sometimes you might even hear the air. The blow holes are natural entrances to underground caverns that are interconnected in the area. Maybe more than just a hole then. Located very near to the Eyre Highway just West of Caiguna in South Australia, the blowhole is easily accessible and clearly signposted. It makes a nice picnic area but please be careful, this natural attraction is unspoilt by any barriers or railings. You could end up driving into it if you were not paying attention!

Great overnight stop if you are self-contained as there is no water or amenities there. The grounds are back from the highway, so there's no road noise at night. The grounds are level. The 'Blow Hole' is just a big hole in the ground and wasn't blowing the day we were there, but it's a great stop over on the trip across the Nullarbor. The place is pet friendly. When driving to the rest area, be aware that the turnoff is signed directly ON the turnoff, there are no signs indicating turnoff coming up. If you're not careful, you'll miss the turnoff and have to turn around.

Definitely an interesting hole in the ground but sadly the uneducated like to use it as a bin even though there was one only 4 meters away… it was sadly graffitied and the bin was nearly overflowing. The hole did stink from the rubbish. However it is a great place to find a campsite, if you drive further down the unpaved track you’ll come across a variety of nice campsites and it becomes so remote you cannot hear the trucks from the highway anymore. Lovely place to stay with privacy.

Somebody has graffitied on the blowhole which is unfortunate. The reason my rating is not five stars is because the blowhole is IMMEDIATELY to your left when you turn in right near the road and there is no signage. There are a series of tracks heading off in different directions ahead of you, so the natural inclination after driving at speed for so long is to head on straight ahead. A single sign pointing at it when you turn in would stop tunnel visioned fools like myself from driving off into...
