In South Australia's dusty fold, Where roads are rough and bold, You'll find a sight so rare and stark, Welcome to Mutonia Sculpture Park! In the middle of nowhere, off the beaten track, Lies an art installation that never looks back. Sculptures rise from the desert floor, Metal wonders you'll adore. A bicycle rides a giant spine, While a robot waves a friendly sign. Creatures crafted from rusty parts, This land of whimsy warms our hearts. A plane turned into an artistic feat, With wings that once graced the sky's retreat. Now stands still, a monument grand, In this surreal, dusty land. The Mad Max vibes you’ll surely feel, Amidst the sculptures made of steel. An homage to creativity's fire, In a place where dreams aspire. Visitors come from far and wide, To see where imagination and metal collide. They wander through this desert fair, Snapping photos with a joyful glare. Mutonia Sculpture Park, a curious sight, Where art and metal take their flight. A mind-bending marvel in the outback’s air, In the middle of nowhere, beyond compare.

Intriguing to say the least. Whilst admiring the sculptures an indigenous elder approached us & explained his connection to country & gave us an signed copy of his book (Talking Sideways) about the historical nature of this sacred land & surrounding area. His name is Reg Todd - a must read after exploring the "Track" (Oodnadatta) - you will appreciate the significance even more!

On the way through from Marree we stopped on the side of the track and viewed the sculptures from behind the wire fence. You would not be able to drive passed as they are quite impressive to see and very unique indeed. An awesome job erecting these, that’s for sure. Worth a stop even if just to stretch the legs.

I guess if you're on the Oodnadatta Track 35Km out of Maree and heading to William Creek, you won't really miss this site. Former mechanic Robin Cooke made these remarkable pieces over many years. His "Plane Henge" will immediately take your eye if you are heading West. The "Big Dog" or "Giant Dingo" used to be a railway water tank, but Robin simply welded an old Chrysler on to make the head and voila! Woof Woof.

One could give this site 1 star or 5 but you will undoubtedly stop...

Weird sculptures in the middle of nowhere. Right on the Oodnadatta track so you don't need to get off but you do need to get out and walk to see them all up close. Could drive along fence line and see them from a distance. Some sculptures are falling apart in 2023 so could do with a update to get them back to original form. Could also have an artist description or name of each structure. No information at all...
