Prepare to be mesmerized! Nestled within the breathtaking Otway Ranges, Maits Rest Rainforest Walk is a short but unforgettable journey into a world of towering trees, vibrant ferns, and elusive wildlife. This enchanting trail offers a glimpse into the heart of Australia's ancient rainforest, leaving visitors awestruck by its natural splendor.

As you step onto the well-maintained boardwalk, you're immediately enveloped in a symphony of sights and sounds. The towering myrtle beech trees, some over 300 years old, soar majestically overhead, casting dappled sunlight on the lush undergrowth. Ferns of all shapes and sizes carpet the forest floor, creating a vibrant tapestry of green hues.

The air is alive with the chirping of birds, the rustling of leaves, and the occasional rustle of a hidden creature. Keep your eyes peeled for the elusive swamp wallaby, ring-tailed possum, or even the rare yellow-bellied glider.

The trail itself is a gentle loop, suitable for walkers of all ages and fitness levels. The boardwalk winds its way through the rainforest, offering glimpses of hidden waterfalls and serene creek crossings. Along the way, interpretive signs provide fascinating insights into the forest's ecology and history.

As you emerge from the rainforest, you'll be greeted by breathtaking views of the surrounding countryside. Take a moment to soak in the tranquility of the forest, the freshness of the air, and the sense of wonder that only nature can inspire.

Maits Rest Rainforest Walk is a must-see for anyone visiting the Otway Ranges. Whether you're seeking a peaceful escape from the hustle and bustle of everyday life or an opportunity to immerse yourself in the natural beauty of Australia, this enchanting walk will leave...

On the GOR tourist trail - so it is chock full of large touring vans & cars! This is on B100 Great Ocean Rd in the section where it cuts through the magnificent Otways National park & rainforest which gets the highest rainfall in the entire state. Benefit of being so popular on the tourist trail? 800 metres of this loop walk is well maintained, with boardwalk & unsealed sections, seats to rest plus excellent info boards for young & old alike. Take your rubbish home with you. No toilets here. Not a recreational place to linger too long but a great place to sample a part of natural eco system, take your pics & move on.

Note: does have a steeper unsealed incline which may be a little challenging for those with mobility issues. However - there are strategically placed seats which blend into the surroundings to take it easy. Trail runs under cool canopy of ferns, mosses & trees & you may be lucky to spot a koala higher up the eucalyptus tree! Might be...
