We are spoilt for choice when it comes to gorgeous coastal Lookouts & this is worthy of the 20 - 30 mins mins walk one way (at a moderate pace) from Cape Woolamai Life Surfing carpark. Cafe & Toilets are located here only & no where else!
Cape Woolamai is a haven for bushwalkers & surfers - so can get very busy in good weather. The popular circuit trail is close to 10 kms & trail maps are signposted but it is easy enough to follow the well trodden trail.
Getting to the Pinnacles Lookout requires a reasonable fitness. Shorter route is to head down to the surf beach & bit of walk on sand to the end, up steep wooden staircase & veer right & follow undulating trail. The other way is uphill trail opposite first entry into the carpark - it is signposted.
There are various vantage points for pics before you get to the Lookout - so take your time. There is one wooden seat to rest at the Pinnacles & really not a picnic spot!
Cape Woolamai is very exposed - so be prepared for the weather with good walking shoes & drinks if you are venturing further.
I have seen migrating whales from this Lookout in June few years ago. This time last week - it was wallabies, usual shore birds & pretty coastal wildflowers in bloom. Though the info on Cape Woolamai promises all sorts of fauna including migratory shearwaters (mutton birds). A sunny day with blue skies illuminates the crashing waves against the rocks but this Lookout is just spectacular in...
Read moreThis hike offered a fantastic blend of stunning coastal scenery and abundant wildlife encounters. The trail itself was relatively easy to navigate, with well-maintained paths that wound through diverse landscapes. Beach Views: The panoramic beach views were absolutely breathtaking. There were numerous spots along the trail where I could stop and soak in the expansive ocean vistas. The way that the landscape met the ocean was amazing. Wildlife Encounters: Wildlife was definitely a highlight! I was fortunate enough to spot several echidnas foraging in the undergrowth, and numerous lizards sunbathing on the rocks. It is important to be aware that there were snakes, so keeping to the path and being observant is very important. It really made the hike feel like a true immersion in nature. Landscape: The landscape was incredibly varied, from rugged coastal cliffs to sheltered pockets of lush vegetation. The changing scenery kept the hike interesting, and there were plenty of opportunities for stunning photographs. The way that the wildflowers were scattered through the landscape was very beautiful. Overall: This hike is a must-do for anyone who loves nature and enjoys a good view. Just remember to bring your camera and keep an eye out for the local residents! I would highly recommend this hike to anyone looking for a moderately easy hike with...
Read moreA beautiful place! Four stars given it was a little hard to locate the starting point lol the gps stopped at where the management vehicles access. We entered from Woolamai beach and turned left passed the life guards flag point. Wear lighter clothing as flies will hitch hike on your arms and the back of your top and top of your hat. Bring water! Minimum 1.5litres. We weren’t to keen to hike once seeing the pinnacles so could have turned around and returned via the steps however we did the whole thing and it was a good choice! We got to see wallabies/kangaroos so many of them! We save snakes and echidna too! Return back via the steps you came in with as using the back management track is nothing but sand so don’t bother lol bring your camera bring your hat and sunblock! Allow for 4 hours if you’re stopping to rest, take photos and look for wildlife.
Hiking sandles are better than flip flops or sneakers given the parts of the track that are...
