Ticked this off our compass list as most westerly point, having thus far been to Byron, Cape York and Lambert Centre. Loved it. Can only be done with a 4x4 as there is a soft sand dune section. Use your CB as well, and take your time as there are a few blind crests. Air down to 20ish PSI at the end of the sealed, then air up again at the same place on the way back. Check in at the ranger station, which is after the dunes. We had the park pass already, but access envelopes are at the entry point. Based ourselves at Hamelin Pool for a couple of days and did the point on a full day trip, taking around 3 hrs to drive the 170km. Starting with approx 25km sealed, followed by the majority being gravel with reasonable corrugations into the soft sand areas. There is a fair bit to see. We spotted whales, a 2m shark at the Oven, and numerous other sharks at the beach drive. Take water, lunch and refreshments as well as a full tank in the broom broom. You can camp here as well. Not sure about big vans, but certainly campers etc. Supposed to be spectacular fishing I'm told. Unsure of additional camping costs. There are scattered toilets about, but they are the only facilities. As Larry said, "Come on down" You won't be disappointed. Not sure regarding disabled facilities, but there is the ability to do the point and have a look around, but due to the terrain, will be a challenge in...

The facilities were all maintained well by the friendly ranger team, we had an excellent stay in Easter 2 camp ground on shelter beach. We enjoyed some insane cliff fishing, catching several bluebone and witnessing lots of shark and mackerel action on the bait schools further out. Had some great snorkelling around the tiny island down the far left end of shelter beach, seeing clown fish, moray eel, clams, and other unbelievable looking tropical fish. Already looking forward to coming back. Only down side was the mice, they were very resourceful at finding their way into our car which we usually sleep in, but we had traps set, and a backup tent... so there's 30 less you'll have to...

We recently spent a few days in Shark Bay and participated in the full day Steep Point & Dirk Hartog Island Marine Safari

We recently participated in marine tour with Shark Bay Eco Tours that included passing by Steep Point, which is part of the proposed Edel Land National Park and considered to be the most western point of mainland Australia.

We passed by the limestone cliffs at Steep Point enjoyed the land and seascape as part of that marine tour. It is one of several beautiful landmarks enjoyed on the day. It seems there are ways to do Steep Point on land by way of 4wd as well for those interested in land...
