Nestled in the heart of the Atherton Tablelands, the Tolga Bat Hospital is a remarkable sanctuary for these fascinating creatures. Its unique blend of educational experiences and hands-on encounters with bats makes it a must-visit destination for wildlife enthusiasts. Upon arrival, visitors are enveloped in warm hospitality and a profound opportunity to learn about the vital role bats play in our ecosystem. The staff's dedication to bat conservation is palpable, shining through their extensive knowledge and unwavering passion. The hospital's facilities are nothing short of impressive, providing a secure haven for injured and orphaned bats. Bearing witness to the rehabilitation process up close is both profoundly educational and deeply heartwarming. Visitors invariably find themselves deeply moved by the exceptional dedication and care extended to these often misunderstood creatures. The Tolga Bat Hospital offers a rare and invaluable opportunity to observe and engage with these remarkable animals, fostering a deeper appreciation for their significance in our natural world. This sanctuary not only educates but also leaves an indelible mark on the hearts of its visitors, solidifying its place as a beacon of compassion and commitment to wildlife...

Absolutely awesome tour 🤩 Only lived in Cairns for 3 years so I am still a tourist and during that time I have been on many tours and this one wins hands down. Nerida did a fantastic job with both her extensive knowledge and interacting with the group. I have now a new appreciation of mammal that has involved the ability of fly ,use sonar and is absolutely necessary to pollinate many of Australia’s forests. I would recommend this tour to everyone that’s just visiting or local so you to can appreciate a poor struggling species that has an unwarranted and totally false bad reputation all around the world. And please if read this post and currently have barded wire around your property make it bat proof because I couldn’t think of a worse way to die than hanging on a fence how...

The Tolga Bat Hospital in Atherton was an amazing experience. For a small entry fee, you’re welcomed into a fascinating and eye-opening experience led by incredibly knowledgeable and passionate staff. The depth of information shared about both micro and mega bats was impressive, and it was all delivered in a way that kept both adults and children completely engaged.

My kids were absolutely fascinated by the bats — seeing these often misunderstood creatures up close and learning about their role in the ecosystem really left an impression. It's impossible to leave without a newfound appreciation for bats and concern for their safety and survival. Supporting a place like this feels genuinely worthwhile, as they’re doing such important work in bat rescue, rehabilitation,...

One of the top highlights of our 6 weeks in Australia! Put this on the top of your list when visiting the greater Cairns and Tablelands region—and make sure to book ahead of time! Due to a heat wave and tick season, there are hundreds of flying foxes here for rehabilitation for the next few months and all are cared for by a team of dedicated volunteers led by incredible director Jenny. You’ll be a mega bat fan after meeting these adorable local residents that come in all shapes and sizes. Tour fees support the bat hospital that is currently entirely funded by donation, and you can further support their rescue and rehab work in their small gift store with shirts, ornaments, postcards, stickers, and more delightful batty baubles.
