Chrismont Wines probably doesn’t even need another 5 start review but I feel honour bound to write something of the tremendous feelings that I received from my visit. Every so often 5 stars just doesn’t seem enough. I would like to give 6 stars to Chrismont and its staff for making my entire visit so enjoyable and welcoming with food and wine to match and all with unparalelled views down the valley from its cliff top setting overlooking their vines and away to spectacular mountains in the background. I’m not going to be able to recall names but my cellar door experience with a free tasting featured very natural conversation and expert wine knowledge and yet didn’t feel like a marketing/selling exercise but more like a friend introducing their winery to someone new. It all flowed beautifully into the restaurant experience. A menu with many appealing dishes and a waitress who paired the Gnocchi with the Ragu sauce rather than the creamy sauce was a wonderful idea. What a knockout dish that was. The beautiful soft Gnocchi pillows in a lovely rich meat sauce. Bliss! Every mouthful. Accompanied by a small glass of Barbera from the bottle that I’d just purchased, was very thoughtful in that the staff didn’t want me to drink too much with a long drive ahead of me. Finished with a Chai latte at a perfect temperature to round out the bliss. Worth every penny and it wasn’t that many pennies. What a way to finish my week long camping trip in the King Valley. A lasting memory of warmth...
Read moreMe and the family went for lunch a on the 27/12/20. The architecture of the building was brilliant both in terms of the layout and location. The views are spectacular as well! With all this said, you worry that the food wont meet the same levels as the presentation of the restaurant......well they hit that out of the ball park as well! The food was amazing, great balance between presentation and flavour. I tasted 6 dishes and not one failed in terms of flavour. And the sizes of the meals were very filling...we all rolled out of the restaurant full as googs! The wine tasting area was clean, modern and roomy and the staff behind the counter were happily busy serving patrons with a wide selection of grapes to try. To cap off the experience was the service...... Down to earth, friendly, happy to chat and not pretentious as you would expect with a professional looking eating environment as you might find in the Yarra Valley in the CBD. And there was one lady (who seemed to be the mother or wife of the wine maker) who was constantly making sure everyone was happy and enjoying their meals....great Italian hospitality!
So overall....5 stars
I hope that one day they can seal that road up to the restaurant because not unless you have a 4WD, the road can be a bit harsh for smaller cars...but I'm sure they have this already planned for the...
Read moreI don't enjoy giving average reviews (hence the 3), but you guys, with a large outside deck, should clearly say somewhere where people can see it in advance that you're a dog unfriendly venue, before dills like us drive all that way for an anticipated nice experience, only to be turned away at the door. That has to seriously annoy some folks. People who travel that far with dogs, usually have very well trained ones (kids? Another matter 🤔). I'm sure you deserve the great ratings you get for wine, food, service etc, but we aren't tying our beloved dog up at the entrance, nor leaving her in the car when there's no shade and one never knows how long a tasting or lunch may go for. And for those reading who have encountered this extremely disappointing rejection, when there's abundant outdoor space, please note that back in Whitfield Dal Zottos are great, Pizzinis too, and of course the Mountain View hotel (with no real mountain view, but great food and service). Most cellar doors throughout the region and indeed the most amazing fine wine areas of the country that we have visited (& that's a fair few!) are dog friendly. Yet Chrismonts choose to side with the National Park people. Archaic and antiquated rules.... If you decide to change your mind please let us know......we would love to sample what's on offer there one day...
