Jim Barry Wines — Attraction in Clare

Phenomenal wines, amazing tasting room experience. We attended Jim Barry’s tasting room as a booking on a Friday morning. On arrival we were treated to a complimentary plate of cheese, quince jelly, gluten free crackers and olives. This served as a great palate reset throughout the tasting. The tasting was a set selection of 7 wines, curated as a weighted tasting starting with lighter white varieties and ending with the heavier reds. Our host, Annika, was incredibly knowledgeable & friendly - providing our group with fantastic anecdotes of the winery history and history of the region, provided in context of each wine tasted.

A highlight was a surprise entrance from emeritus wine maker Peter Barry himself, who proudly informed us of a recent wine-show win, their Watervale Riesling taking a gold medal in the Brisbane Wine Awards! (Congratulations guys!)

Needless to say, I highly recommend a visit to Jim Barry’s cellar door, a must for anyone visiting the Clare Valley.

The best thing I can say about this place is first and foremost the hospitality shown by Sarah. Sarah is a wealth of knowledge not only about the wines my wife and I tasted but history of the Barry’s. Sarah treated us like long lost friends. We were provided with some nibbles to accompany the wines. All I can say is we were not pressured in anyway to make a purchase, however the wines speak for themselves, as over $200 later😛. This is an experience that anyone would be lucky to participate in. Sarah is a value to the company. Dora is also a lovely lady and down to earth and accommodating. Well done To the Barry family in their choice of staff and being able to keep them onboard. Definitely will be back and hopefully it won’t take us another 5 years to...

Absolutely amazing experience at this cellar door. Person who was working (sorry I forgot your name) was an absolute legend. Knew all the wines, and was able to talk in detail about seperate vineyards and vintages. As a fellow industry worker, this is how customer service should be done. Bought two cases, and I’ll probably get some more. Visited probably 40-50 cellar doors across McLaren Vale as well as Barossa/Eden/Clare Valley in the last week - definitely the best experience I have...
