We checked in on 24th December so the whole area is pretty much closed during the public holiday season. Our room is a standard room with 1 queen bed and simple amenity. There are 3 things to be mindful of when you book:
Poor wifi (ADSL) and poor 5g signal. But since this is a retreat area, I guess you should get rid of your phones and social media.
Poor air flow in the bathroom: the window frame is stuck due to moisture and no way you can open it to get some natural air into the bathroom. You can turn on a small fan but that is not enough really. More ventilation holes would be much appreciated especially on very hot days.
Better lighting would be nice. The overhead light is too dull to illuminate...
We were fortunate to attend a wedding here this past weekend. Stayed in the Coachman's quarters. Sizeable enough although given the history of the place there was not much upkeep. Our door handle was falling out and the housekeeping of window ledges and those usual spots of build up were missed. The wine tasting was easy to organise and an outside area to enjoy but again the outdoor furniture was definitely weathered and harsh to use. A little disappointed that the wine at the wedding function itself wasn't the Estate's own wine but that of The Hunter Valley. Read moreIn early January 2024, the three of us stayed in Room 26, the Servants Quarters. It was a two story room with a kitchenette. It was cozy and comfortable. The staff were fantastic and so friendly. The grounds were beautiful with the old buildings well maintained among healthy looking vegetation. We also had a wonderful lunch in the restaurant on the vineyards. Our waitress was so friendly and a wonderful character who helped make the lunch so special. The restaurant was actually fully booked that day with visiting groups when we made the booking but the staff still managed to get us in and gave us a wonderful seat with a lovely view.
