As I rattled along in my old Toyota Hi Ace Van named Cailleach (affectionately known as simpy Cal) I noticed a little signpost with 'The Granites' written on it. Curiosity peaked, Cal, and me, Val, took a lefty turn to go check out what this place was. Im glad we did! It was a wet windy day, and The Granites were showing up at a wilderness-like beach. The only witness to civilisation was a very big flat expanse of bitumen car parking area, with a 4x4 vehicle, a caravan, 2 bikes, a cute dog and 2 humans upon it. Warning signs of the risks entailed in going in the water, or onto the beach, were off to the left where a tumbledown wooden lookout platform was battling the elements, and the elements are winning. In the sea, across the seaweed strewn beach, the big oval shaped Granite rocks were being battered and sprayed with sea spume at mid tide. A desolate but beautiful place and a nice on the way...
   Read moreSecluded and beautiful. This is a large sandy beach with several large chunks of granite nestled in the sand smoothed by the waves. This is one of our favorite places to visit as the rocks provide a seascape like no other. There is a carpark nearby which offers a large area to stop and relax for a day. No toilet facilities which some could have concern about where others may enjoy this aspect of nature. For the less adventurous there is a small lookout from the carpark where you can view...

No facilities so you'll have to be self sufficient and take all your rubbish, unlike a couple of selfish so and sos before us, but never mind, we cleaned up as best we could and took it with us all of 10ks or so down the road to a bin.
