The best dinosaur and working museum in the world in our family's opinion.

SERVICE Friendly and helpful

Dedicated staff who are both dedicated and passionate about the museum.

Fantastic community involvement with Winton

PETS No shade in the carpark. No facilities available for petcare 4-5 hour duration makes this a No Go Zone.

1ST PRESENTATION Two movies about Banjo and Matilda, Australia's most complete fossil remains ever found.

Then followed by a presenter's explaination show casing the bones.

LOVED being able to touch and see the size of Banjo's claw.

TIP If you love dinosaurs and the history behind the finds, you will love this. Small kids might get bored.

2ND PRESENTATION Working museum was AWESOME, particularly being surrounded by millions of years of fossilised dinosaur bones. You find out more infirm on how bones are discovered, dug out, preserved and then exposed to create them (one day) into a display.

It was a priviledge to speak with volunteers and hear their stories / experiences. EVERYONE should embrace the unique opportunity to volunteer your time. (Yes it does cost to join the bone digging in cooler months)

Fasinating to ask questions of the volunteers chipping carefully away to expose the dinosaur bones. Such a unique family experience. You need to love dinosaurs to really appreciate this presentational experience.

TIP Some patience needed while waiting There is another movie to view on site. Passionate lecture by archeologist 100% do not miss touching a REAL dinosaur bone.....so exciting!!

3RD PRESENTATION Train on wheels takes you to the last of three presentations.

A local archelogist explains each area and their significance as you walk through "open air rooms" that display life sized models of dinosaur in realistic Jurassic Park type of exhibits.

It's a presentation still under construction, but my 10 year old daughter LOVED this presentation out of all three.

TIP Lots of memory or memory card in your phone for photos. Snacks for the kids Good walking shoes Bottle water and snacks for your kids

OVERALL I believe you need to love dinosaurs, ancient history and have a passion for archeology to fully appreciate the time, care, attractions and experience.

The three presentations take 5 hours in total, families with young children might find it all to much. Indifferent teenagers would see this as a waste of their time.

If your kids love dinosaurs, they will have a blast and you could be here all day...

Interesting displays and stories. You get to see fossils cleaned. Did just the museum tours, which you can book from the Tickets icon on the home page, the option isn't shown on the Tours or Visit pages. We didn't want to leave our dog in the large l Kennels, which are in shade and have water, so it took us over 4 hours to eVh do the 2 30 min tours, with 30 mins between each.

My wife was instructed to drive her mobility scooter down the road through the car park with vague instructions to find the cleaning shack, and after the start time of the tour, although she was there 15 mins early. Very unclear instructions. Best to drive the car back to Fossil way and park in the car park there if you can't walk the path there. And you probably need to arrive 30 mins before tour to checkin then travel to other site. For some reason the do the distant site first instead if starting with the collection at reception.

Fortunately another staff member was able to sort out the confusion since there is no signage in the carpark of where to go, and they...

NOT FOR YOUNG KIDS

Visited on 25/06/22 with our 2 kids(2 and 4). We visited the dinosaur canyon as part of the 2.15pm tour. Our kids were enjoying themselves, using the pencils and activity books provided, away from the group, with us near them. The youngest grabbed a pencil from big brother which resulted in a 15s spat between them, which we were actively dealing with.

The tour guide stopped the entire session, dramatically approached and insisted we leave ( she was quite confrontational about it, started the tour by telling us her earlier group had naughty children in it....). It would appear she was punishing our family for whatever was frustrating her.

Completely inappropriate, unnecessary and humiliating.

We reported the incident to management(Kim), who sincerely appeared not to be bothered in the slightest.

Never experienced something so outrageous. Honestly, if your kids aren't the deathly silent type, I'd give it a skip....you won't get your money's worth.

Fossil prep tour and collection room were good and as described by...

Besides it being really busy during school holidays. The staff were certainly overwhelmed and did not provide clear instructions on where things were so we missed the start of the 2nd tour because she told us just come and hang around and the girl that called the tour gave one call and we couldn't tell where it came from. If it was explained to us in the first place, the next Collection Tour is over there in that room, we may have known where to be. The stampede tour was terrible as we couldn't understand what she was saying as it was so echoey in the building. They said something about connecting to the WiFi to get the self guided tour of the stampede down the walkway so I spent half of the building guided tour trying to connect to the WiFi. If they had said don't worry until you come back to the staging area and toilets to connect and download, that would have been so much clearer. All too rushed and trying to put to many people through.
