It is what it is, a lookout over the historic Cougal rail spiral. It's hard to actually see the spiral though, and 99% of rail traffic that uses it does so at night (I am a train driver who uses this line, so my comment is based on fact!) So those going to see the spiral and trains are almost certain to be met with disappointment. There is a "long drop" toilet if you're desperate, picnic tables, shady trees and old iron barbecues that haven't been used in years! The view however, is spectacular and for this reason alone itself is worth the drive. Take a packed lunch, listen to the happy birds sing and breathe un polluted air.

This has to be one of the best scenic drives I have done. Such a nice quiet picnic area with drop toilets, tables and fire pits. There is also a loop walk you can do which is about 1.5km and has an old massive fig tree. Nice to just sit relax and listen to nature whilst having a picnic. The history of the building of this loop is truly amazing. A special shout out goes to the Lions Club for the upkeep of this road. Please donate at the NSW/QLD border…….without our help we all wouldn’t be able to experience this spectacular drive.

THANK YOU SO MUCH LIONS CLUB for keeping this brilliant road open to the public. Views are great but due to the intense tree coverage in this area you can only see small snippets of the railway loop. All these 3 x snippets are visible in my photo here. Why is this lookout even here anymore? You will not see any trains as they only traverse this at night. But a good stop all the same. Clean drop toilets too. The rangers do a great job. Thanks
