I was really excited to try locally made ice cream but it was a bit of a let down for me 😕 First of all, the individual plastic cups + spoons are not very environmentally friendly. I was a bit surprised to see that, especially in the Daintree where so many businesses promote taking care of the environment. Second, because each flavour is already pre-packed, it doesn't encourage you to try different flavours, which is kind of part of an ice cream shop experience. And there were also only 2 DF/vegan options... Finally, the ice cream itself wasn't what I expected. It was like ice (and yes, I waited 5 mins before eating it), especially the DF one I had. I was able to try 3 other dairy flavours that my friends got and none of the 4 tasted much. I understand from having read other comments that it is made the "old way" but maybe this is where the problem lies. Nowadays, people expect soft-serve ice cream and it's pretty uncommon to find traditional ice cream like this, so I think offering clear information about that would help people knowing what to not expect (i.e. soft-serve ice cream). It would also help promote the good aspect of this: not everyone makes things traditionally. Just communicate! It's a shame really because I'm all about supporting small local businesses that use local products!!! Other than that, the place is nice and there are nice little areas to sit down. Also, the woman who served us was...
Read moreTruly awful experience. The ice cream was mostly tasteless ice. My partner and I purchased two different flavours and you could barely tell them apart. The ice cream parlour is vocal about it's 'biodynamic' processes but their care for the environment doesn't extend to their packaging. Ice cream is a naturally more eco-friendly take away food - either in an edible cone or if necessary, a paper cup and wooden spoon. For some reason, this place doesn't offer scooped ice cream so every serving is pre-packaged in a plastic tub and served with a plastic spoon. There's also a charge for making a payment on card, which seems outdated in the time of covid where cash useage has all but disappeared. A real shame as we were looking forward to this visit as part of the tour we were on, luckily we found far better ice cream elsewhere to...
Read moreWe’ve been here on two previous trips and it made an impression due to some very unique flavours. I do remember their ice cream being quite frozen and icy, not very cream. Indeed this proved to be the same again this time, quite icy and not very creamy, and the flavours really didn’t come through.
Worst part of the experience was the grumpy old lady, she was extremely friendly and enthusiastic with the couple beforehand us, but with us her face couldn’t be more dour even if she tried. The obvious difference being the group before was white caucasians and we weren’t, conjectures of course but it sure didn’t feel nice to be treated differently.
I would recommend the ice cream place further down the road called Daintree Ice Cream Co, much creamier ice cream and bigger serves too for the difference of...
