So gorgeous. So much drift wood in the little bay off to the left when you're going out (on your right when your heading back to the car park area). People have created little structures out of the drift wood like teepees and other things you can sit in. There was one that I personally think would be the absolute best place ever for a romantic picnic or the like. You can watch the sun set and listen to the water lapping at the stone beach. That’s another awesome thing about this area; the stones!! Thousands upon thousands of pretty stones which get lovely and warm - fun to walk barefoot on. Some of them contain fossils!!! My sister and I managed to crack a few open and we did make a few finds. Highly recommend for geology minded people.it actually inspired us to get a geology kit to take with us next time. Great fun over all and the walk further up to the lighthouse itself is nice. Very quick walk. If we’d just walked out and back the entire thing wouldn’t have taken more than 15-20 minutes. That being said, we spent hours on the rocks looking for fossils, then walked up to the old run down and seemingly abandoned lighthouse and had a look from the lookouts for a short while, walked back to halfway where the beaches are on either side of the track, we checked out the other side which is far more beach-like. It’s a really interesting area as a whole and we will absolutely be going back when our fossil finding geology tools arrive! We had...
Read moreLeft to rust and fall down. Only in NSW do we let history crumble to nothing. That said, it's worth a visit for the views, a connection with European and Indigenous history and a sense of the storm and serenity of nature. At the beginning of the ascent up to the lighthouse is a bit of an unusual "puddle". This soak was a reliable source of fresh water for the aboriginal people who clearly lived here and loved this place. Head around the rocks to the northwest and you'll see plenty of shell middens. And lots of fossils.... And a gorgeous view. In the dip or saddle between the carpark and the rise to the lighthouse, as well as the soak, you will find a park bench. A great place to sit, look out, listen and soak up...
Read moreNice walk but the lighthouse is clearly in a bad state of disrepair with vandalism evident everywhere. Much graffiti displayed on both the front and inside walls and the place has been stripped on anything of value that may have been significant to the history of this site. To our minds the place should be either sealed off/fenced or funds should be found to renovate the site and return it to its original grandeur as the icon at the head of the Shoalhaven River. Graffiti is also covering the two lookouts on the site as well. It could be a very nice tourist attraction if someone takes...
