At deep creek you'll fall in love with the beautiful and peaceful atmosphere. Magpies will wake you with their beautiful chortles in the morning. The stringy bark campground is fantastic for tents or camper trailers. I'd only risk bringing in a caravan in the summertime as it can get quite muddy and there's a real risk of getting bogged in the winter. Fire baseplates are fitted at each campsite and it is a requirement to use those spots for your campfire. You also have to bring your own tinder, kindling and firewood from home. The park rangers are at the headquarters for most of the day and are helpful if your stuck. They'll also drive around the campsites (usually in the morning) and check on campers to make sure they're being respectful of the park rules and preservation of the park (which is fair enough). Stringy bark campground is the only campground to have flushing toilets and a shower. The toilets are pretty good - better than some service station toilets I've been to but the showers look drab with spiders. I'd give the showers a miss. There is also a wash up area with hot water located within the toilet block. Plenty of hiking trails and fun things to do....

This is an excellent environment to really relax and enjoy what Australia has to offer.
There are a lot of kangaroos, amazing wild life and going here will give you a taste of how untouched Kangaroo island is, without catching the ferry.
There are diverse options as well, being able to walk through Forrest settings and 10 minutes drive away, being able to hike down to the water/ go whale watching.
A 4x4 isn’t necessarily essential, but if it’s wet, it will help as there are hilly dirt roads through out. In regards to supplies, I would recommend taking everything you need and more water than less. The nearest place to drop into a shop is really Yankalilla.

Read moreFantastic park with great walking trails (good fitness level required).
The circuit track is spectacular but has some very steep sections with rock hopping required on some sections. Waking poles are highly recommended, and strongly advise doing the circuit clockwise (starting at Tapanappa lookout via Deep Creek Cove). If you do the track anticlockwise from Tapanappa via the Waterfall first, you will have a very tough uphill slog back to the car park after you have walked 10km.
Best way to see the Waterfall is via Tapanappa Lookout on a relatively easy trail. The track in from the Trig carpark end has several sets of step stairs.
Be also prepared for several creek crossings in the wetter months, and...
