An absolute pleasure - the work is nothing short of stunning - of many artists - I had the pleasure of meeting one, and also talked with an employee- I am distressed to hear that government funding is being eroded each year- leaving barely one paid person to run what is a very large business - this is madness - this arts centre provides the canvas on which many lives depend for continuing cultural expression - having been displaced from their country and traditional art sites - the value of Mowanjum Art Centre is integral to the empowerment, health and wellbeing of these wonderful first peoples. The Mowanjum Aboriginal Art and Cultural Centre is a creative hub for the Worrorra, Ngarinyin and Wunumbal tribes, who make up the Mowanjum community outside Derby, Western Australia.

These three language groups are united by their belief in the Wandjina as a sacred spiritual force and the creators of the land. They are the custodians of Wandjina law and iconography.

We've been meaning to write a review for a while, as we learned so much from this centre on our travels. Watching the DVD before moving through helped us gain some small insight into the history of displacement endured and the resilience that is so clearly expressed in the art. The interactive displays were interesting to our children too.
