It's a nice place to go with your family or on your own if you are looking for a place to relax around nature, the new facilities (bbq's, water fountains and toilets) are nice and fairly well maintained. The walking track going around the dam on the other hand is a different story, they call it a circuit but it's like 95% of one of you want to get back to the side of the dam where you entered and the carpark is prepare to walk all the way back or to cross a rocky and unsecured riverbed at the bottom of the dam that is hard to walk through without slipping (especially if you were doing the track with your nearly 70 year old mother like I was). Additionally it's humorous that the sign warning you about red belly black snakes and another species of snake is 1 km into the walk when you would have already walked through a very narrow dirt path with long grass and water plants on...
Read moreThis is a pictures small dam not far from Armidale. There's been a lot of money spent on the facilities. Very neat and tidy with typical Government cookie cutter design parking lot, BBQs, and tables and paths. BUT, like so many places we've discovered around Armidale, it's not dog friendly. I can't see any reason for it. So annoying when you're a tourist from QLD. I can only imagine that a small minority of irresponsible dog owners has spoilt it for the rest of us. Read moreMajor transformation to this park. Great parking and clean amenities block. BBQ's and plenty of seating with great places to lay out your picnic blanket. Great little kids playground and wheelchair accessible mini beach area. Great for a swim and bring ya canoes for a paddle.
Only down side was seeing how people left shit everywhere from birthday parties and other celebrations, the entitled few I guess. Take ya shit home people or even try using the bins, it's not hard!!!
