Spent the long weekend here with the family. The river is beautiful and great for kayaking but the campsites were not what I expected. They are very close together which means the "back to nature" atmosphere is not the best. We had the misfortune of being near a very loud group who brought guitars and two roaming dogs, and another with a lot of children who ran through our campsite yelling and shining high-powered torches until 2am. We also heard a man playing bagpipes each morning. Most campers have quite advanced set-ups so there can be a lot of light pollution too. It kind of makes the long drive into the park (20 mins of unsealed road) and drop toilets seem like punishment rather than part of the camping experience. Unfortunately, there is not much you can do about it as the park rangers are nowhere to be seen and there is no phone reception. There were police inside the park conducting random breath tests the weekend we were there. I don't know if they are always there but we also saw them driving through the park on several occasions. It is possible they perform some of the park ranger duties.
Final note - don't use Google Maps for directions. It tells you to take Park Road when the only entrance is...
Read moreYarragil Campsite: 2 campsites. Both campsites either side of day use area so expect lots of visitors coming and going. No trees to screen day use area from campsites. Don't expect secluded private camping. Campsites about 40 metres apart so noisy neighbours could be a problem. Campsite 1 has river views but site is small and has public access way right at the front of it so don't expect privacy. Campsite 2 is slightly more private and is larger but has no river views and is set in a hollow. Both campsites are very close to River Road so some traffic noise to be expected (though road is low traffic usage only) but can keep you awake at night. Pit toilet located close to site 1, about 20m to the rear of the site and partly obscured from the site by trees. If you have site 1 expect plenty of people to be wandering through the rear of the site to get to the toilet. Also cars...
Read morePaid $40 dollars on entry for my partner and i to stay inside our car at a site for a single night. When we arrived at the site/sites there were NO spots anywhere despite staff still selling entry tickets to car after car. Pulled into a gravel carpark to try and get any of our moneys worth out of the situation and had a group of self entitled campers ask us to leave the area because it was about 75 metres away from a fire pit that theyre group was using (which was no worries) but they still didnt want us there despite no where else available as well as the fact, we also had paid to be there. Packed the car, drove to myalup beach and had a much more pleasant time. Place draws a crowd of terrible people and the business is making a killing off selling tickets to...
