We visited here in December 2022 for a family drive, I found the dredge a great place to bring the kids and explore a space while learning about the mining process in the area. The kids loved being able to go walking in through the dredge and read about how the dredge worked. It was a free hands-on experience, and it was great to be able to walk around the area to view the dredge from different angles. If you wanted to you could access the picnic area which was easy to get to. There was a large enough car park for all vehicles to access the area and if you have grandparents who can't do the stairs its great as there is a ramp up into the dredge and accessible by walker and wheelchair, the paths around the area a dirt and could possibly be a little bit of a challenge in pushing a walker but yet worth the try depending on agility. The paths did not appear rough and rugged at the time of writing this review. I think it was a lovely place to take some photos. It's a great way to go and support a little town, with a great community, you could always drop in to one of the cafes or pub for a lovely meal and...
Read moreIf you've ever watched Goldrush on TV, you would recognise this piece of machinery. Seeing it in real life is awesome. My husband loved this place. I love the fact that you are able to walk onto it and see for yourself what it's like on the inside. It sits in a lake still, giving you a good idea of how it would have worked. There is also an easily walkable path you can walk around the lake and take pictures from different angles (unfortunately I had dogs on leads so didn't take pictures). Worth a visit to say you've seen a piece of historic architecture reflecting Australia's gold mining history. Free entry, no...
Read moreI was amazed at the size of this thing. It's like a ship in a pond in the middle of Victoria. The story about the dredge's short life is, in so many ways, incredible. It's worthy of 5 stars for sure, but I downgraded it purely because of the neglect accorded to it by Parks Victoria and the state government. Shame on you for allowing this treasure to fall apart while you wast billions on controversial Melbourne projects. I drove away, dodging potholes, with a feeling of sadness at the inevitable ruin of this Victorian icon...
