Thank you Colleen for your wealth of knowledge about your little town. We loved Geikie Gorge, swam in the river (only freshies) and saw some beautiful birds (Rainbow Bee eaters), also saw the beautiful paintings near the school and visited The Crossing Inn and had a great chat with local man Percy. I also bought a magnet 🥰

I was traveling from Broome to Fitzroy Crossing few years ago and needed some information about the area. Staff in the information centre was very helpful and I was able to see much more than originally expected.

It said open 1:30pm on Friday, but we wait out here till 2pm it's still not open. People in the center didn't even come out tell us why isn't open yet. The most terrible info center service I've never gone to. :(

Welcome to Fitzroy Crossing At the edge of a 350 million year old Devonian Reef, by the banks of the mighty Fitzroy River and surrounded by some of Australia’s biggest and best pastoral properties, lies Fitzroy Crossing.

Fitzroy Crossing is a mesmerising place to visit with a variety of tour options available you can look forward to learning and experiencing the rich culture, history and customs of the Bunuba, Gooniyandi, Walmajarri, Nyikina and Wangkatjunka people.

Whilst it is not a big town don’t let size fool you, Fitzroy Crossing has all the main services and special one of a kind touristy treasures just for you; it is truly the perfect base to access the spectacular sights of Geike Gorge, Mimbi Caves , St George Ranges, Tunnel Creek, and Windjana Gorge.

Sitting at 114m above sea level, Fitzroy Crossing is surrounded by the flood plains of the Fitzroy River. The Shire of Derby West Kimberley encompasses 118,560 square kilometres and is located more than 2,00km...

I asked the woman at the desk about Derby and one of the questions was is Derby a safe place and she was very quick to answer "yes!" I said, "because Fitzroy crossing isn't!" She said "I beg your pardon?" I repeated it and she became quite perturbed at me and "yes it is!" I said well there was a high security warning at the Fitzroy river lodge. People have been getting broken into and getting their cars stolen. The police were there several times while I was there. She said "well none of that would happen if people keep everything locked up." She was very indifferent (not friendly to me) after that. Every time you need to go to the toilet at night you have to lock up. Well I'm here to tell EVERYONE that fitzroy is a perfectly safe place just so long as you do the right thing and keep everything locked up 24/7. That means locking up all your outside storage compartments too. Make sure you tourists do the right thing now...

The 3 Staff were obviouly wanting to go home and didn't care about our desire to book the Geike Gorge tour as their tour was full. They told us they don't book the National Parks tour which was available and to book it ourselves. As we didn't have Cell reception their suggestion/help🤣 was for us to book when we get our accommodation's WiFi. They certainly didn't provide the helpful service provided by other info centres. Yet Ben from the caravan park resort helped us book the cruise over and above his role....
