GUM SWAMP & BIRD HIDE — Attraction in Forbes

Lovely place to visit amongst nature. Not far out of town. Easy parking. The bird hides are integrated nicely with the natural surrounds. The closest bird hide is not far way from the car park. Nice easy walk. It is two story so you can get a beautiful view high over the lake. Great spot for birders and photographers where you can quietly view the birds in their natural habitat. Generally great site, with 4 bird hides spread along the side of the wetland (3x 2 storey, 1x 1 storey). They must be new as they still smell of fresh timber! These hides are well positioned but need a bit of landscaping as you're very visible walking up to them. There are also no seats inside the hides, so bring a chair if you plan to sit a while. Spectacular place if you want to see birds. Hundreds of teal and Pink-eared Duck. Often even the rare Freckled Duck mingles inconspicuously with them in smaller numbers.
