I am not seeing what other people see. The first bit is that it is $30 each which seemed pricey as that was $60, but we were told how fantastic it is. They lady at the counter is serving food, taking orders and is going to do the tour. She told us how she needs more help.
Tour was meant to start in 10min, 20mins later ... when she takes us through she takes over from another guide, but tells him (in front of us all about all the things that need to be done out front). She starts her talk/guide through, but her manner was so strange .. she often (not once or twice more) referred to certain fish behaviour to men .. like these fish are like old men, the older they get the fatter they get...and others about laziness. She also talked about a fish eating his snot and said to a young boy I bet you do that .. he was so embarrassed.
She was rushing through the guide and said, look I am trying to move this as quick as I can because there are sandflies in here, so I want to get out of here as quick as I can as I am sure you want to as well.
The shark feeding looked like a well used fish and no sharks or fish were interested and that's fine..they aren't hungry ... my animals wouldn't eat every hour either.
The guide was knowledgeable but ... and its way too expensive for what it is.
If they talked about how they use the profits to help the fish environment that would soften the blow.
I say use $15 instead and watch the dolphins...
Read moreThe day was a bit wet and overcast when we came here. It is about a 20 minute drive from Denham, just keep an eye out for the signs on the main road. We came fairly early and there were plenty of parking spaces around. The entrance goes into the cafe and gift shop, where you can buy the tickets to the aquarium. The entrance is done in groups since it is a timed tour which looks to start every half hour. The tour goes around to their different areas to look at the different sea life in each. A few of the displays were outside so when it rained you get quite wet. The indoor area was a bit smaller but does have quite a few displays of the different sea animals from the area. It did look a bit more like a wet fish market than an aquarium which gives it some uniqueness. The fishes inside were all quite beautiful, and some deadly. The main experience is the shark feeding in the shark pool. You view the feeding on the bridge above the pool so you do get a nice view of what's happening. The size of some of the fishes was huge, particularly the ones in the outdoor pools. The tour guide was also quite informative and did give a lot of information about the different animals in the tanks. You are able to explore the aquarium after...
Read moreThey have a great system of doing a continuous guided tour around the aquarium, you join in at whatever point they are at when you arrive and when they reach the end, another guide will take over and continue the tour from the start, so you don't miss anything. It takes roughly 1 hour.
The guides are all very knowledgable marine biologists/scientists and very friendly with the info they give and with answering any questions.
Donny? the turtle was great to see, and he/she played well to the cameras. The shark feeding was also very well done and is done on every rotation of the tour. It was also great to see sea snakes and other venemous and dangerous sealife.
Although we didn't have any food or drink from the cafe, the selection was good and the cakes were very tempting.
I'd have given 4.5 if I could, only negative is that some tanks or areas look like they could do with some cleaning or upgrading. I'm sure they have this in mind!
Ocean Park was originally a pink snapper hatchery and has evolved in to the aquarium...
