Worth the shortish hike out there. You really feel like you are in the middle of the outback or a desert. A great place for some photography. Bring a towel and a plastic bag... The towel for a picnic or shade and the plastic bag for your shoes. We saw alot of people left their shoes in the woods before climbing the hill up to the drift. I prefer to keep mine with me. The climb into the drift is not easy and we are a fit couple. With dry sand it is like being on a never ending stair machine. Elderly and children under 5 may struggle to climb it easily. The big drift is full of amazing views and I wish we had allowed more time. We spent maybe 30 minutes wandering around and as an amateur photographer that wasn't near enough. Photographers or hobbyist will want at least 2 hours. The sand is incredibly soft and I can see how it would be easy to get lost here... But common sense should save you... Just take notice of your surroundings and landmarks. Pack some food, water, sunglasses, sunscreen, and a hat.. Because when the sun is out it is tough to see... blindingly bright and almost no shade around. A must do for a visit...

This place - wow. I am in awe every time I come to visit this place (my second time now). The fact that we have something like a desert safari in Victoria is mind-blowing. I have no speech. I am without speech. Okay, I'll stop being Elaine now.

The walk from the (Stockyards) carpark is about 25-35mins. We did a brisk walk and got there in 25. This time we went it was overcast and the walk didn't feel as long. I remember the first time we went it was sunny and it was hard to catch some decent shade and get out of the sun.

The dunes are spectacular. If you're visiting the Prom and never have been to the Big Drift, do yourself a favour and go. It's literally the last stop on the way out. Do it. You might be out of energy, but as a friend said the first time, "It was most memorable."

We brought a frisbee up there. Was a tad windy. One other I saw had a body board. The angle of that sand though....

Make sure you use some insect repellent. Those flies can make you look like you a crazy swatter or something.

One last thing - we ended up seeing this cute echidna on the way back! It was a perfect way to end the walk back to...

A random hidden gem located right beside the Wilson prom entry gate. The landscape is huge and spectacular. There’s a car park area which has public toilets. The walk from there is about 4km round trip. Be careful during this walk as we came across 2 snakes right beside the walking path and thousands of files would surround you so don’t forget to keep your eyes open while walking and cover yourself in sunscreen as the heat there leaves a terrible tan. The walk alone to the top is medium level, most of the walk is on flat ground just 100m worth of the walk is a steep one - it’s to climb the top of the sand dune. Since the landscape is vast I wouldn’t recommend walking into other dunes as you might easily miss the small entrance from where you came. Good to carry a water bottle during these hot summer days. Tip - while walking on the steep path keep your feet in the already visible foot prints for good grip as there is a high chance of skidding during...

Absolutely stunning lookout... It gives the feel of a desert in Wilson Prom... Absolutely loved it. If you come here around sunset, the shots are incredible.
