If you are serious about food and wine you should AVOID this place. After booking the caravan park across the road we were excited that a winery with food and welcoming dogs was nearby. I read the recent reviews and thought we were on a winner. Booked in for a wine taste and platter on a Sunday afternoon. The platter arrived first with the cheese toasties. Plain cheap white bread with a filling that was rather bland. Previous customers did not eat the toasties. The owners offered the toasties to our dog and gave some to their dog. We should have done the same, but were hungry. The main platter arrived. I asked if the cheeses were local. Only to be told - oh no they are just Aldi cheeses. The local cheese is much too expensive. After just visiting the local cheese factory, I thought they were good value for quality cheese. I think everything on the platter may have been supermarket prepared food. So much for authentic greek food!!! The wines came out. Small samples, like 10 mls for some the wines. The wines were aged. Yes, well beyond their peak. I really don’t know how any wine maker would pour wine of this low standard and expect customers to purchase the wines. Just as well we only had small samples. The owners asked us were we travelling around Australia. We said no, that we travelled from the Hunter Valley to buy wines. We did not purchase any wines from here and would NOT RECOMMEND any of the wines. Maybe we had very different wines to those people with previous comments. We begrudgingly paid for the platter...
Read moreAmazing winery, couldn't recommend highly enough. Wasn't a single wine I didn't enjoy, and the value for money was unbeatable. We tried everything from a 2022 verdhello to start and finished with a white wine blend from 1996 (was unbelievably tasty and for how old it was, $55 was a steal!). We went with some friends who are not the biggest fans of wine and even they enjoyed themselves. The service was second to none, they were so friendly and accommodating despite having a large group come in as we arrived, and took their time to chat to us and made us feel at home. And to top it off they have just finished planting some montepulciano and Sagrantino (or maybe it was Sangiovese) vines this year so many more delicious wines to come! Thank you for an amazing experience in such a beautiful place...
Read moreThis was my second time at Kominos Wines. I visited about 8 years ago with my husband where Tony served us. He was such a fabulous host and very knowledgeable. He even took us on an impromptu tour allowing us to drink wine directly from the vats. I remembered this original visit and enjoyed it so much that on this current trip (with my sister) we had to return. This time Mary was our host (who was equally a-maz-ing!), and while tasting their beautiful wines Mary made us feel relaxed with friendly conversation from travelling with sisters, to Greek food, festivals, and family back home :) Thank you to you both, hopefully it won't be another 8 years before we return however in the meantime it will be cheers to you over a tasty Vermentino, or two :) Cheers,...
