I love this National Park it is great country to explore & for camping. It has marvelous sandstone cliffs & wonderful bush lands with a variety of plants & animals. Be very careful when exploring around the cliffs as this sandstone country is very crumbly, you could very easily injure yourself. We love to explore the Lonesome section but, on our resent visit in May 2024 we were very disappointed as it is very rundown due to the lack of maintenance to the driving tracks & the campground, the majority of tracks are inaccessible & the campground isn't maintained. There use to be a BBQ but it is long gone, there is only one fire ring. We had planned to camp at the campground for several nights but due to the parks lack of maintenance we ended up camping at the lookout for one night. Unfortunately we can only give Lonesome three stars as the National Parks & Wildlife Service seem to be neglecting it for some reason. It would be a terrific park if it was maintained & even had more camping grounds available. QLD NPWS please do the right thing & maintain Lonesome section for the Australian People. 12/05/2025. This is an update for Lonesome section. We hoped to camp here over easter but, on arrival we sadly found that the campground is now shut. (please see pic) Don't know why? The tracks are still as...

I would like to start and mention that Queensland Parks have done a great job here with the trails, tracks and camping area. With 3 days at the Starkvale camping area you get a very good look at what’s on offer in this section of the park - Robinson Gorge. Being self sufficient in the park is a must as one would expect. There are drop toilets male & female and in good condition. There is plenty of room for camper trailers, but some of the spots will take a bit of manoeuvring into, ours was easy as no one else there on 2 of the days. All hikes are class 4 and the trails good. The Cattle Dip, is a 1.2km return hike from the camp ground and where you can have a cuppa looking out at the view. Shepard’s Peak 3.6km return is a little harder as you need to climb the peak for an awesome view, a great place for lunch. Robinson Gorge Lookout 4km return is another for views of the Gorge below. The Road into the National Park is good but would be challenging in wet weather. We will come back as we are still to hike to the Gorge...

This is a great national park. The camping gound is spread out and shaded with picnic tables and fire pits provided. The road in is recommended 4WD only as it has some steep rocky sections. There are some good walking tracks and spectacular lookouts. The walk down into the gorge is steep and requires some scrambling down steep rocks. Make sure you take note of where you entered the gorge as it is not easy to find on the way out. There is a rock cairn near the bottom of the track down but this can not be seen from the gorge floor. It is easier to walk alnong the top of the bank of the creek on the gorge floor rather than the creek bed itself. This is an isolated park and does not have large amounts of campers so you are likely to have the place to yourself. Some of the walks have unfenced cliff edges and steep rocky sections so supervise any children and be responsible for...
