Steep, potentially muddy walk. You can park on the road at the bottom. No facilities.
The "official" part is mostly through a cow field, 180m climb, but does have a great view at the top - in one direction, back to Gloucester.
After that, there are intimidating signs about the top being private property and you should not continue.
Were one to continue anyway, I suppose there might be a partial track through the wild vegetation at the top of the ridge, smelling of lantana and sage, probably steep rock scrambles, some bushes and trees to clamber past, and 150m more climbing leading to the first of the Buckets peaks with even better views in all directions. It would probably be less fun to scramble back down the rocks, if the heavy rain started when you were at the top. One would then need towels and a change of clothes and shoes at the car. I expect it would be worth it if you like that...
Read moreNice walk if a bit hairy at the end. I guess I didn’t expect rock scrambling when I asked the visitors centre for a short walk at sunset. It’s an easy walk up a hill till the official end of the trail which is on private land. Then there is actually a sign at a shed that said if you go beyond that it was trespassing which I found odd given that they advertise this track. After hemming and hawing, I pushed through wanting to see the top. Didn’t quite make it all the way to the top (probably short 100-200 meters) as the “path” gets less defined the higher up you go and I had 20 minutes till sunset to scramble all the way down. Going down a bit harder than up as I missed the path a couple of times and had to do bouldering in reverse. Be careful and give yourself...
Read moreThere is now a path cut through the grass that veers to the left going up, avoiding the most dicey/slippery bit along the fence. Even if you only get to the top of that section, the views are perfectly lovely. I would recommend only heading to the very top for exercise or just to say you've done it. As the other reviews say, good shoes with grip recommended especially coming down from the very top; avoid in wet weather.
The walk itself is not necessarily special, just up a grassy hill, and not worth going out of your way for, but a good side trip if you need to get the blood flowing, especially to break up...
