I visited the Goolwa Barrage with my family during our Easter vacation and we were absolutely blown away by the engineering and ingenuity that went into this structure. The barrage serves a crucial role in separating the river water from saltwater, which is important for maintaining the ecological balance in the area. It was amazing to see how mankind can control nature for the greater good.
The area surrounding the barrage is also incredibly beautiful, with stunning views of the river and ocean meeting. We took a walk along the barrage and enjoyed the fresh air and peaceful surroundings. We even spotted some wildlife in the area, which added to the experience.
The cultural significance of the Goolwa Barrage cannot be understated. It's a testament to the hard work and dedication of the engineers who designed and built it, and it's a source of pride for the local community. It's clear that a lot of thought and care went into the construction of the barrage, and it's great to see it being put to good use.
Overall, I would highly recommend a visit to the Goolwa Barrage for anyone interested in engineering, nature, or just looking for a beautiful spot to enjoy some time outdoors. It's a unique and fascinating structure that highlights the ways in which mankind can work with nature for the greater good. We had a great time and will...
Read moreI loved the place thanks to the sea lions!! They tan at the barrage, it's so cute. People in charge put a padlock on the gate. Therefore, one cannot get too close to them and disturb them. Good for the animals and a bit sad for me. However, I thought it was a good idea and I rather they do that (and I can see them from far only) rather than people go everyday and annoy Them! The master was friendly the day I went there (1st week of the month). There is a nice beach at walking distance. It's a relaxing place to be. Also, useful if you have a boat, as you can go in and out via...
Read moreI really enjoyed visiting the Barrage. Beautifully maintained picnic areas, plenty of picnic tables about overlooking the water. The gates are open everyday from 8am till 4pm. Walking out on the water you won't be disappointed. Seals sunning themselves on the pylons or pilate style swimming about. Plenty of water birds to see and capture. Pelicans, swans, grebes, wood ducks, cormorants, seagulls and if you listen carefully you just may hear the whistling kites before you spot them souring above. Definitely well worth the visit if you are passing through or taking a...
