Went for a walk with our young Groodle pup, wanting to find a spot we could let her off-leash without running into other dogs. This part of Bribie has beautiful drift wood & fallen trees that perfectly seperates a few spacious areas for small groups/couples to relax/picnic/swim/play with or without dogs! Only problem with this area, some of the fallen trees have branches that stick back up out of the sand & you stump your feet on them! Big ouchies! Can often lead to open wounds! Watch Out For Those & remember where they are for the tide changes! You can't see them as the tide rises! (Different times of the year *will have to check when it is again* there are even dolphins, baby sharks & whales to watch! Your dogs can sometimes swim out to dolphins. Never had luck getting too close myself though.)

If you’re looking to spend a day (or two) in a serene, quiet spot then Bribie Island is the place. The beach area is only accessible through by a 4x4 and you’ll need to bring your own provisions. There is a shopping centre but not near the beach so make sure you’re fully stocked. You’ll need a beach permit if you’re going for a day and an additional camping permit if you’re thinking about spending the night. Both are available through the Bribie Island website. Also look up No Limits 4x4 hire if you don’t have your own as they specialise in trucks that get you into the off roading spirit. No toilets, no power and no camping sites. Just miles and miles of beach, sea and sun.

The site was quite basic. There are only 6 sites and the 6th one is the largest. Two guys occupied our site (No. 2) and refused to move to the site 3. They did pay but took a wrong day and claimed they were drunk. They also said the Ranger told him to stay freely. We had 5 vehicles and had to use the No. 1 site because the No. 2 site was in the middle of No. 1 and No. 3. There was no toilet and no falicities. The view was alright but we won't go back this site again. Do not pick this spot if you are coming in group because people can appear wild here.

For a review of the access track itself. The space to air down/up is massive and caters for the busiest of public holidays. The cutting onto the beach is really long, and depending on the amount of recent rainfall can be a little tough going to get through. I've seen people stuck on a few occasions, but that could be due to not having the correct tyre pressure. It's still a better option coming this way though, rather than the inland track from the other side of the island (that's a long, slow hard slog)

The beach itself is incredible and worth the drive, but make sure you are in time with the tides while entering and leaving. Trying to get out on a high King tide, you'll be getting some...
