So we were on holiday in NSW, our Son who lives in Griffith had to show us this great park. There is so much interesting stuff & antiques to see, so amazing & massive park. A great look into the history of the region, lifestyles, Indigenous History & Cultures. Also the settlement of Non Indigenous & other Ethnic Cultures . Historical buildings, Antique household Belongings, Furnishings & Features. Even a massive collection of Original MATCHBOX VEHICLES of all types, including the original packaging. Encased in glass cabinets, which was an attraction to everyone that was visiting the park, from the youngest to the oldest of any groups or families visiting the Park. You could take a guided tour thru the park, enjoy a BBQ or Picnic there with family or friends, there was a fully licensed Restaurant open to the Public for lunch or dinner there, that also catered for Functions like birthdays or other special events, but closed when we visited. It was also a training Restaurant thru the TAFE College, for people wanting a career in Hospitality. We were there for a few hours walking around the Historical Buildings & Farming & Industry Equipment. But as we neared closing time we had to leave, which we still had a lot more that we couldn't see, due to no time. On leaving we were able to purchase Souvenirs & a few drinks form the little shop that was there. It is a place you could visit as a group or family, but to see & take in all that is at the Park, I would recommend that to go early in the morning & spend the day whole there. You won't be disappointed, especially the Historical Person inside You. Be prepared for walking on dirt lanes & rocky or unlevel surfaces, it is based on top of rocky & dry hills. Aussie...
Read moreFree parking. Toilets. Disable friendly, though most pathways are dirt and small rocks and uneven ground. Safe and friendly for children with a small playground available. I went on a school week day, it was on the quiet side and gave me plenty of space to explore. The staff are friendly and you are given a map to navigate. Most if not all buildings are signed so you know what you are looking at. Be sure to schedule at least an hour, I took almost two, but I did go into every building and read, lots! There are videos, photos and displays in most of the buildings. Some buildings are air conditioned, but mostly all buildings and pathways are exposed to the temperature of the day you go. Wouldn't recommend going on a rainy day. Pack a lunch, sun block and take water off you really want to take your time and experience what this museum has to offer. I have not uploaded any photos, it's all things old, if you like that, then you'll like...
Read moreGriffith is the town of my birth and teenage years. I returned to holiday after a long absence in 2015. The Pioneer Park Museum bought back many memories especially the Post Office where I worked on the Griffith Telephone Exchange before it became automated. So many of the restored shops of yesteryear on display. My interest in the Italian Museum (within the complex) was also memorable as my parents were immigrants who settled in Griffith in 1929. Many artefacts on display from every region in Italia. Prepare to spend at least half a day to visit (longer if you have time) and see how this 'dust bowl' became the thriving City...
