Everyone I know LOVES this place but whenever I go I get bitten by sand flies and to me it's just not worth it - you can get pristine beaches and lagoons and caravan parks all up the mid north coast without sand flies, although hathead is particularly good for fishing and canoeing. If you've never been bitten by sand flies before consider yourself lucky. I wouldn't wish them on my worst enemy. The itchiest non stop itch for 4 consecutive days. Rather have 100 mosquito bites than 8 sand fly bites (I've had both at some stage, so I can...

A quieter National Park to visit we visited Gap Beach and stayed at Hungry Gate Campground. Gap beach was brilliant and the walk there descends through a palm forest with views to the ocean. Hungry Gate has lots of wildlife and giant sand dunes right next door! We went for a nightwalk to the beach too and were told occasionally sea snakes wash up (do not touch them though!) bring cash for the campground, well worth the spot!

Priceless experience, this place is just beyond reviews, the dunes run for kilometers, a unique experience to walk them, the other side is even more crazy, you drive up that hill, walk a bit of forest and enjoy the beautiful view. There's a river crossing at the end but it's...

A coastal park with beaches, lighthouse, sand dunes, and many more. At the lookout, it offers a panoramic view of the South Pacific Ocean. We proceeded to locate the sand dunes and we were delighted to find that the sand grains are so fine like those used in hour glasses! We spent more than an hour playing in the sand dunes; scrambling up, sliding down and leaving our footprints in the sand. It was so much fun.
