HISTORY This museum is dedicated to Mr Headlie Taylor, who invented the header harvester, which completely revolutionised the grain industry here and around the world 🌎. Headlie Taylor was born in 1883 he went to Henty public school 🏫 and left at the age of 14 to work on the farm 🚜. He took every opportunity to learn new skills, including blacksmithing, which enabled him to repair farm 🚜 machinery and make and fit spare parts. In 1911, Headlie started building a machine to harvest damaged crops. In 1914, he exhibited a new machine (3) at Henty show, and then in April 1915, Melbourne Machinery manufacturer Rolanson started building 5 machines by 1920/21 1000 Sunshine 🌞 headers had been manufactured. 1922 engine function headre developed 1924 Sunshine 🌞 'auto header' was developed. 1929, a factory 🏭 was set up in Canada 🇨🇦 to build auto headers. 1936 built Sunprong pasture renovator and TD harvester. 1938 developed 'power take off' header. 1941 mechanised flax harvester with 3 separate machines. 1943 cutter bar for pick up modified, comb cleaners designed. 1953re designed the auto header. 1954 Headlie retired from Sunshine 🌞 Header works. Read moreWasnt open when we went there but the way the building is set up you can see everything pretty much anyway. Headlie's story along the front window was extremely interesting & full of detail. The statue of Headlie out the front is great. If you are interested in Australian agricultural history i highly recommend calling in if going through Henty. Pretty amazing that an invention by someone who left school at 14 & taught himself engineering, made the tools & parts he needed in the blacksmith at his family farm is now behind the design of headers used worldwide!
