We had a bit of time to spare in between planned visits around port Macquarie and just happened to come across this on Google and decided to check it out. The access is a bit difficult and I d recommend and 4WD for sure (although I saw a Toyota Corolla hatch braving the gravel tracks that lead to this). You need to drive about 5-6 km on gravel roads before you can reach the parking lot. The allowed speed limit is 60 but I don’t know how you can do anything above 20 on that road. Once at the parking lot, it’s a nice 300 m trek into the rainforest. We did it on a nice sunny 27 degree day. It was a bit unnerving driving without seeing a soul into the rainforest and also not seeing anyone else at the car park or on the trek. But in the same vein it was thrilling as well. The tree itself is magnificent (confess that am illiterate as such on botany or plants). Definitely a photoworthy spot. You can easily squeeze this in under an hour in...

Just a reminder that the internal break road to this place can be rough for a normal family car especially after rain. We tried to reach this place on a family Sedan but had to return 600 meters to the tree. As the road condition deteriorated with water and mud together with the narrow and uneven road itself. I was told to head back by two cars turning back. Unfortunately we weren't successful in getting to see this divine tree, but the kids enjoyed the...

The road In wasn't what i was expecting. It's not a 4wd track but I wouldn't take a normal sedan in. Part of the road was rotted out and would easily have got stuck if I wasn't in a SUV. As for the tree the carpark was tiny and we were the only one's there and felt pretty guarded so we got out of there pretty quickly and never even got to see the tree. Would I recommend it? No probably not unless with a...

Amazing experience. Easy to walk and once arriving at the old and majestic tree it simply takes your breath away. A must do if you are in the area. Be warned the the dirt road in may be a bit rough at times and take care driving as some spots narrow to one vehicle wide. Toilets located at the entrance of the walk. Sad to see that some individuals think it's OK to carve the tree with initials and names.

It's a pretty cool old tree! It's out of the way down an unsealed road. Feels a bit rainforest like, some cool little river crossings. On Bago road make sure to stay on until you see the sign for Old bottle butt! We followed the SatNav in a 2wd and added maybe 30 minutes on the journey. Be advised we went on a wet day, and came back to the car with about 6 leeches between us on our shoes!
