This is a fantastic opportunity for bush walkers about 40min away from Hobart that is dog friendly. Make sure to keep your pet on lead and clean up after any mess. Australian native animals make this area home so keep this in mind at all times. The small car park is only a few hundred meters away from the entrance of the walk. Once on the walk it will wind down past some seats if you need to have a stop or 2 on the way. At about the half way point there is a wooden shelter with a seating area. From here it becomes a bit more of a down hill adventure. Be mindful to bring good shoes as it can become slippery when it is damp. After a short 15/20 min walk you will arrive at one of the most beautiful waterfalls on offer. You can walk around and explore but be mindful of slippery rocks...or getting lost, if its close to dusk just stick to the tracks. Once you have soaked in the fairy tale feel of the beautiful scenery it's a short 30/40 min walk uphill back...
Read moreThe walking track down into the valley to see the falls has a couple of obstacles and some trip hazards but nothing too serious. It seems to be a dog friendly walk, provided they’re kept on a lead.
Even when there’s less water, the falls are still worth a visit, being situated in a natural glade with an impressive rock face. There are also several interesting hollows and rock shelters right beside the walking track and several species of wildflowers are blooming along most of the track in spring. There were also a few native bird species about.
The road from Snug up to the track is not the greatest, as it narrows along one section with rough edges in patches - I shredded a tyre on my way back down despite driving slowly...
Read moreIt's an easy drive up to the Falls carpark from Snug, half being smooth unsealed road. The actual track to the Falls is approx 150m beyond the carpark, just follow the road and it's up on the right. I measured the walk at 3k return and all pretty easy going, a gradual descent on the way down and up on the return. There's a couple of hollow trees for the kids to climb thru and small caves to explore along the track. Note, It might get a little slippery and muddy after rain so wear appropriate shoes. You'll be well rewarded with a beautiful tall waterfall and steam. Recommend taking an extra layer of clothing as it's a bit cooler down by the falls, esp if you plan to stay for a while to take in...
