Dear Millbrook team:
We organized a farewell lunch (7 Nov) for our friend who's leaving Perth for good. He has never been to Millbrook so we thought it would be a good memory for him before his departure. Our family has visited Millbrook many times as we love the atmosphere, venue, food and friendly service.
Upon arrival at the main dining room, there were only a few patrons. We got seated at the table right next to the terrace door and it was very windy. Every time someone opened the door a strong draft would hit us and blow our menus from the table. We asked twice if we could change to the 4 seat table behind us but we were declined. The maitre'd didn't provide a solid reason and her attitude became unfriendly suddenly. We were all quite surprised that she wasn't accommodating, especially since we had a child at our table. She even told us that tables were just allocated as patrons walked in so it's not as if patrons had booked any particular tables. So why wouldn't she let us move? So now my son and I are sick and it has interrupted this week's schedule which is very frustrating.
It always surprises me when restaurants/staff are not flexible when it comes to their guest's needs. Our request was a very reasonable one. If it wasn't for the sake of our friend last weekend in Perth, we would have walked out the restaurant straight away. It wasn't a complimentary meal after all and we should have some say in where we want to sit. Perhaps you should try to put yourself in our position, I'm sure you wouldn't like the same treatment either. The maitre'd was the only one not wearing a uniform so she must be on a manager level. I would suggest for her to adjust the way she speaks with guests in order to make them feel more welcome since people are there to have a 'good experience'.
In terms of food, overall it was nice, especially the dessert but our pork dish was a little dry. It would have been good to add a dribble of sauce to offset the dryness. We thought the food standard had dropped this time compared to our previous visits. The flavours were ok but very two dimensional and lacked the vibrance and punch of the last visit.
So you sent us an email asking for our feedback and this is our honest experience. I hope Millbrook will take our feedback seriously and value your customers' opinions and suggestions. We won't be rushing back anytime soon as our experience wasn't completely satisfying but having said that our waitress was very lovely...
Read moreWe (wife and parents in law) headed off to Millbrook for the first time. It was no mean feat, being an 80+kilometre journey (each way) from our home in Connolly. The ‘sat nav’ also decided to take me the scenic route on the way there, so the travel time was extended. Hopefully, the dining experience would be worth it. As you drove into the winery you were greeted by an impressive looking restaurant and a view of rolling gardens and three lovely dams with rows of naked grape vines. After all it is winter. Mum has mobility issues but acrod parking was at the rear of the restaurant, with level ground and easy access to the inside. We were met by a wonderful lady, who I can only assume was head of front of house. Unfortunately I didn’t get her name but she was lovely and took time to clearly explain how the menu worked. Our table waitress was a lovely young lady named Ellie. She was extremely friendly and attentive and is was clear, she was very happy to be there, as did the rest of the table staff. We did the three course menu with wine pairing. Entree was the chiefs choice shared tasting plates. A wonderful home baked crusty bread with salted butter and a wonderfully smooth pate and olives. This was followed by cured cobia (a fish), floating on a very tasty, fresh vinaigrette and dill pickle. Then came the duck fat sunchokes and the flat iron steak with ratatouille of peppers. For mains, three of us had the Berkshire pork dish. Again a lovely dish. Dad had the fish, a grilled snapper with clams on a beurre blanc. Desert followed with the three choices on offer being availed off. Mum was quite impressed as she had the three cheese platter which was accompanied by two desert wines and a desert bubbles one for each cheese. Overall a 10/10 for the meal and 11/10 for Ellie’s attentiveness. If there was one downside, and I only point this out for awareness reasons as both parents do struggle with hearing, the restaurant acoustics are not the best, and we found it quite noisy. Was it worth the drive? Definitely. Would we go...
Read moreA few weeks ago, my wife and I took my mother and father out for a belated Mother’s Day lunch at Millbrook Estate in Jarrahdale. This was our second visit, and once again, we were blown away by the entire experience.
The drive to Millbrook Estate from Perth is scenic and easy, setting a relaxing tone before you even arrive. As you approach the property, the breathtaking views of the vineyards and gully are truly mesmerizing, providing a stunning backdrop for the exceptional meal ahead.
The food at Millbrook Estate is absolutely exquisite. Everything is seasonal, and the fruit and vegetables are grown on the property, which truly enhances the flavors of each dish. The standout for us was the citrus-cured fish entree—an absolute delight. The warmed bread and olives, along with the pate and butter, were delectable, setting the tone for a fantastic meal.
The serving sizes were perfect, ensuring we savored every bite without feeling overwhelmed. It's a testament to the quality of the food that our plates didn’t leave the table with anything left on them.
The service was amazing, attentive, and thoughtful, making our lunch even more enjoyable. For the mains, my mum and dad had the barramundi on a bed of vegetables, which they thoroughly enjoyed. My wife had the pork with crackling, roasted pumpkin, and veggies, while I had the ox tail, which was incredibly tender and paired with a perfectly balanced tomato sauce.
The dessert was the true winner of the meal. It was like a filo pastry custard pie—delicious, light, creamy, and flaky. This was paired with chocolate custard and vanilla ice cream. The surprise standout was a slice of mandarin infused with rose water. It was so delightful that we’ve replicated it at home and will continue to do so.
Millbrook Estate has once again proven to be an exceptional dining destination. The combination of exquisite food, impeccable service, and a beautiful setting makes it a must-visit. We are already looking forward to...
