My partner and I just completed the trail from Booloumba Day area (2) to Wongai Walkers Camp. We stayed overnite there before returning the next day. The first couple of km's follows the Booloumba Creek as it snakes it way through the park. There are a few spots to go out to the bank and look back over the gorge. Breathtaking views, crystal clear water flowing over hundreds of colourful river rocks. As you approach the Artist Cascade the track narrows and becomes quite 'wild'. We actually lost the track a couple of time but that was mainly due to there being a storm a few days earlier and trees had fallen all over the track. Artist cascades is worth the trip approx five km's from the start. We stopped and enjoyed our lunch there. From here, this is where the track is trecherous and dangerous and is signposted for experienced walkers only. It is about 4 km's of uphill on a track that winds it way up, track is narrow with steep drop offs to one side. Rocks, roots, fallen branches underfoot. I was carrying 15kg pack, My partner carrying 20kg. Hard going but absolutely worth it. Booloumba falls is en route as is the Bread Knife. Wongai Walkers Camp has tank water and a toilet. Of the three sites I saw (we stayed in the last one, bigger & flatter) each one had a low slatted timber table to sit on, set up stove etc. Well worth the journey. About a...
Read moreWhat a great national park in Queensland you can drive right up to the water and stopping for a swim nice and warm nice and fresh and the water is clear. In some parts you will need a full drive to get in or you can park a two wheel drive car and walk in. It's a free Park and has plenty of room and camping is allowed right on the water good place for picnics and lunch there are toilets and facility basic facilities. Like tables and chairs. It is an easy drive in from the metropolitan area anyone who is in the area I would stop in and have a look it is a great National Park close to suburbia and a must see for everyone in in the Queensland area. There is fish in the water and bush turkeys running around everywhere so great place the kids and a great place to have some fun. I would recommend bringing drinking water I was there is no drinking water on site and what rubbish you bringing you should bring out with you, campfires allowed and there is no power in the national park I did not see any locked Gates so you can come and go as you want 24 hours access. The great Creek crossings that you do crossover a spectacular the water looks...
Read moreSpectacular Great Walk, and quite a bit easier that Carnarvon. That said, there were some areas that had the sweat dripping. The walk had a lot more places that a novice could bail out if the walk proved too onerous, or in the event of an injury.
There were also a lot of spots that made you want to stop and soak in the ambiance - lovely Rock pools, enormously tall forests, liana forests, eucalyptus forests (quite a lot of snakes).
I highly recommend this 4 day walk for those just getting into hiking - easy terrain, good paths, close to Brisbane, some...
