How things have gone down hill so fast is what i ask myself upon my return to Sandy Cape Recreation Park, after nearly 8 months since my last visit i was met with the disturbing reality of the change of caretakers. Eight months ago this review would have been the opposite, 5 stars, but now after all this money spend on improving the campsites it seems that is has in fact done the opposite. The new caretaker is an example of someone who has been given little power and taken it way too far to fulfil his personal agenda. I personally saw the caretaker force a family of our native brothers and sisters from the campsites stating that he doesn't want that kind of person at Sandy Cape, how he could remove an aboriginal family from land that is originally theres i have no clue as they were some of the nicest people i have ever met and took excellent care of the land, better then the caretaker. Then i saw the real root of the problems at sandy cape, the caretaker has an alcohol problem, after staying 2 nights with my uncles i saw the caretaker on 5 occasions, usually all in the morning and he already had an alcoholic beverage in his hand. Isn't this man supposed to be working? It truly is a shame to see a beautiful spot like Sandy Cape be dragged through the mud because of someone who is just trying to get a cruisey job and a bit of power. I ask the shire to bring back the original care taker of this land, the one only Tom Jansen, the most respectful bloke on the planet, loved sandy cape with all of his heart and the best care taker the southern hemisphere...
Read more$110 for 2 nights felt was incredibly overpriced. Tried calling a few times to book, but no answer, booked online in the end, but ended up with error messages. ( but still took our $) On arrival told we had booked wrong days (pretty sure triple checked, but wondered if the issue was they were all but full?) Reception staff seemed to be lots of huffing and puffing and quite put out. I offered to find somewhere else to stay if it was too much for them. Told there were no vacancies, but a slightly nicer plot behind us the whole time?! We got a gravel site, on the corner, next to the bins, on the edge of the main road in, which was full of large pot holes and puddles! (And told it was likely to flood if it rained!!)ââTwas grim! Couldnât put our awning up due to gravel. We were given 1 female loo key between 3 of us so had to time our showers and toilets!! 1st loo block was old, but found another which was a little better. Cabins/chalets looked nice and inviting. Outdoor camp kitchen was basic but ok, would be ideal for more shelter from the elements. 1st night lots of music from pub across the road till 11pm. Convenient location to the beach, but very windy! (End of May!) Few nice places to eat within...
Read moreFantastic experience for us tent/swag campers. 7 of us altogether, three adults, 4 kids under ten plus a dog. Can imagine it gets busy in summer, but we pulled in at 4:30 pm and got an amazing spot on the hill by the beach, under a big tree with a view of the water. Probably not suited to a caravan, but plenty of caravan friendly sites as well. Amenities: public toilet block with cold water showers (limit to 2 minutes.) No electric. Rain water tank for washing up only - not drinking water. Two BBQs under cover with a few picnic tables. Super dog friendly. Rules say dogs must be leashed in the campground and on the beach but saw lots of well-trained dogs running free on the beach and no one seemed to mind. Best bits: the stars at night, the views, the quiet beach and bay with shallows for the kids, dunes, and even caught a glimpse of the resident (manta or sting?)ray cruising...
