Lake Wabby — Attraction in K'gari

Having been to every other spot on the island we left Lake Wabby til last and I have to say I was a bit disappointed. It’s certainly no Lake McKenzie. Mostly sand there’s only a small green body of water to swim in. You have to walk to the look out and then branch off to the left for a 1km trek down to the lake area. The walk from the lookout to the lake was a little harder than we expected, but so very worth it. The catfish in the lake are not in the least put off by human presence and are wonderful to watch and swim with. There are definitely dingoes nearby, as evidenced by the footprints we saw heading down the dune to the water's edge, so it pays to remain vigilant. The water was warm and delicious to swim in. This lake might be a little muddy and the walk is farther than some of the others, but it was my favorite lake! The water is very hot, and the area is stunning with the sand dunes next to the rainforrest. There are fish you can watch and the smaller ones will nibble a little on you.
