Stoney Creek has become a popular swim spot and visitors and locals alike enjoy relaxing in the lush rainforest environment with cascading falls.

Children like being supported to explore their environment with parents or guardians. I recommend taking care around the waters edge as there are varying sizes of boulders that make up walkways and trails and swimming areas. There are many places to swim along the ascent of this creek and the water is refreshingly cool at touch and clear most of the year around. These waterways are home to fish, turtles and other amphibious life.

The Douglas Track branches off from this trail and is a 3 - 6 hour hike north into the range for the adventurous. The Cairns Council website shows the most up to date review of track conditions or maintenance.

Mosquitoes and other biting insects live in this area so repellent or DEET will be very useful also double check for leeches during the wet season or monsoonal months. (Nov - Mar)

Good sized falls at highest vantage point.

Street parking can get full so prepare to walk from...

This place is a hidden gem that is just waiting to be explored! Alot of the locals go here, but not many tourists know of it making it the perfect place for a swim in the rainforest without the crowds! There is multiple spots all the way up the creek so you can find your own spot, sit back and relax! There's fish, birds, turtles, lizards, everything! People have even found gold here! But don't get your hopes up! The path up the creek is a rocky one, if it's been raining, would not recommend to venture up, it's slippery and not very safe in thongs or for kids but if it's been dry, put your sneakers on, pack a bag and start walking! There's spot from the beginning all the way up to 1km, there is a 100m small rock walk going up that you need to be pretty stable and able. Would not recommend to anyone with bad ankles, back problems, or anyone...

Stoney Creek is hands down one of my favorite spots in Cairns. My daughter and I go here usually twice a week to enjoy a swim and take in the stunning scenery. The water is crystal clear and you can see lots of fish, and if you're lucky, you might even spot a freshwater turtle or two.

What's great about Stoney Creek is that it's not too crowded, so you can really enjoy the natural beauty of the area. The water is also nice and refreshing, which is perfect on a hot day. Plus, there are plenty of shady spots to relax and have a picnic.

Overall, Stoney Creek is a fantastic spot for a swim and a day out with the family. We always have a great time here and can't recommend it enough. So if you're looking for a beautiful, natural spot to cool off in Cairns, be sure to check out Stoney Creek - you won't be...

Need to have some local knowledge otherwise you could miss the best spots. We visited here in September holidays 2022, has been a bit dry, so not alot of flowing water. We crossed the small bridge just after carpark and noticed a few people swimming on the left side of the bridge upon a few rocks. We got told to go straight up the hill as soon as you cross the vridge go up about 30 metres, then find a track that has been made to the left, you start to go down and will be greeted with a nice pool with soft rocky bottom at the bottom of some falls. Deep enough to put your head underwater, and enough flow to keep the water fresh. This local Track is cumbersome and steep in points, tree roots, loose sharp rocks aplenty, but get past this and you will be rewarded.

Stoney Creek is only a 15-20 minute drive from Trinity Beach or the CBD. It's got beautiful views both on the ground floor and higher in the clouds if you're into hiking up the side of a mountain to overlook Barron River and the city of Cairns. There are several swimming spots to relax and cool off on a hot day and it's surprisingly clean from litter. The water is pristine as it comes direct from Stoney Creek Falls in Kuranda. You can find beautiful plant and wildlife including brush turkeys, goannas and turtles.
