An unexpectedly spectacular location - I had expected a nice view but I had not expected 360° vistas as far as your eyes can see. I am remiss to emphasise too much, for fear of too many people knowing about the spot. It's so peaceful and hikes are well structured but not overdone. My favourite vantage point was Rangers Lookout, although the night sky from the top of Kaputar Lookout (at 9pm with no moon and no clouds) is seared in my mind as the most spectacular arrangement of the Milky Way that I have been privy to. We stayed at the National Parks accommodation (Dawsons Spring Cabins), which felt like a world away from reality. They were very comfortable, with hot showers, a beautiful well-stocked fireplace, full kitchen and clean + comfortable space. I would recommend visiting, over any other national park in NSW (which i do not say lightly). The roads up is windy and steep but very accessible and not a deterrent - the views just get better as you ascend. It's...

So much to see and do you will need a few days to take in all of this national park. The lookouts on the drive to the top of Mount Kaputar are spectacular to say the least. The road to the top of Mount Kaputar is not accessible to vehicles towing caravans. There is an area at the start of the climb up where you can leave caravans. Dirt road at the beginning leading onto a narrow tared road as you make your way to the top.

Electric BBQ's, picnic tables, toilets, two camping areas with hot showers as well as cabins for those that wish to camp in style can be found here. Cabins can be booked through NPWS...

About a 45 minute drive from Narrabri this sub alpine national park is in top condition with a range of walks, camping and some limited cabins. It's a credit to the rangers the roads have just been regraded and the facilities are in top shape. The camping grounds are well defined with showers and toilets nearby. Wonderful walks and views. It is also easy to just drive through as well but caution is needed on some of the bends. There is a gravel section but taken slowly is fine in good weather. Also ideal for a day trip but need to take...

Great national park with a variety of walks and lookouts to enjoy. I was surprised that Mt. Kaputar was 1500m above sea level and while cool on and April night it was certainly not cold. Great campsites are located on the mountain but busy during holidays and with the inability to book sites it is a bit of luck to be able to get one. Hot showers and flushable toilets are at both campsites on the mountain. If these two sites are full there are a couple of options in the area but these aren’t fantastic.
