We went to this as my partner and I were on a holiday and he came to this as a kid and wanted to show me. I wasn't disappointed to say the least we looked around the free entry part and for a small fee of $28 per person on a tour we quickly jumped at the chance to feed the massive barramundi by hand and see the process of what they do at this centre. Blown away by the knowledge of our tour guide and the passion they have knowing that every person who goes on a tour here the money is put back into this facility for the next spawning of the barramundi fingerlings back into the wild for the next generation of fisherman to discover. This was such a highlight of many things at karumba. If you are in the area definitely recommend doing the tour. They also have a gift shop at the front.

What a great place to visit, learn and enjoy! Beautiful modern Tourist Information Centre as well as the Barra Indoor Hatchery. I spent an hour plus going through the free area Discovery Centre displays, which give a lot of information on the centre and Karumba. The Tip to Tail behind the scenes tour through the hatchery, followed by the hand feeding of the “retired” female breeders was so informative and a highlight of my time in Karumba. I was so fortunate to visit an hour after a spawning and witness the early stage developments of the ‘hatchlings’. Importantly the tours are important to supplement the funding of the hatchery to restock the region! Please join one- it’s great value for a great cause!

If you are in Karumba you should visit Les Wilson Barramundi, it is a great place to visit, it has Tours plus a free area with lots of information about the town and the barramandi, lovely staff, especially Bianca who was wonderful, she spoiled and played with our 20 month old baby Oli. She also gave us a lot of information about the fish and if that wasn't enough she let our little one feed the fish. Oli for a new aunty :) What a great great time thank you very much!!

An impressive building with a great audio visual experience. One about the morning glory cloud, another a barramundi fishing documentary and the other about the bareamundi fishing as a whole. The centre doubles as an information centre for the area but there interest lies mainly in the Barramundi side of things. Public fish feeding takes place at $2 per prrson its great value as an added bonus the raptors (birds) come in and oppotunistically grab the fish food and put on a great show. There is a great cafe and souvenir shop to complete the experience. If you totally immerse yourself in a on offer set sside at least 3 hours. Great place to be on a really hot day....
