I grew up around this dam & it broke my heart. Absolutely heart breaking & so disgraceful. I think whoever allowed the release of the water from the dam should be kicked out of their job. I have seen the water level go up & down over the last 50 years but this is a disgrace & so wrong. Huge dead fish everywhere, cracks everywhere from where the water had once had been. I actually cried when I walked to the edge of the water & found a Cod fish about 1 & a half metres long rotting just out of what little water there was left at the time of my visit. Im sure I will never see fish that size in my time in that dam ever again. I wouldnt recommend anyone to go the because its not worth the visit. The pontoon is sitting in the middle of nowhere.I wouldnt swim in the water & I doubt that there are any fish left to catch & you probably wouldnt eat them anyway. I can remember not being able to get anywhere to park or camp when we used to go out skiing & holiday. Now people can park anywhere they like, unfortunately if you park near the waters edge you have to drive back to the shop or the caravan park or even the toilets. Im hearing on the tv & radio that the mines are taking all the water or using too much water. The mines have been there long before the dam was built & it never emptied out before like this. But the cotton wasnt, maybe we should look at how much water is going into the cotton field dams & evaporates before it gets used. Maybe cotton growers should put in water tanks to fit the size of the crop they grow, not dams that are big enough to ski on. Then Keepit wont have to go dry. I dont expect to go back there again. Its no longer a happy memory for me. Its not a Dam now,...
Read moreWow.! This place has everything. Playground & pool & wide open spaces for the kids and walking the dog. Camp kitchen has a big, undercover, open fire for those cool winter nights. Very relaxing. We met our fellow campers there for an impromptu social get together at 4pm. Lovely to hear all their stories. The staff are happy and very helpful. The numerous facility blocks are spotless, with separate bathrooms for parents and the disabled. The grounds are really well maintained. Glamping tents and cabins are available to rent as well as powered caravan sites with slabs for awning or annex and unpowered tent sites. The lake is beautiful and so restful, sit in the sun and read a book. Use your phone or camera to take keepsakes of the sunrises or sunsets or what you and the family got up to while here.... you will want to stay a few extra...
Read moreGreat great great place to visit. It's absolutely amazing. Huge area for camping, cottages, toilet facilities, drinking water, bbq, kids' play zone, kids' water splash, fishing, boat/jet ski, and proper kitchen with all cooking facilities. What else are you looking for? From the boom gate, if you are heading straight, then camping and other facilities, cafe, boat ramp etc. But if you turn right towards bush land, besically you are going to reveal another hidden gem. Absolutely amazing the whole drive. Keep in your mind that the roads inside bushlands are not sealed. It's unpaved road, but you can take your hatch back car as well. No issues, just drive slow. Everyone, whoever is reading my post, should go there with family and friends...
