These clever statues depicting traditional types of labor in this area are great fun and make a perfect place to get out and stretch your legs on the road between Perth and the Great Wave. Watch on the north side of the road for a tree painted blue. There’s space to pull off, and a gap in the fence lets you walk through some trees the few meters down to the lake. The statues themselves are great! In the main group of four by the lake’s edge, there’s a man shearing a sheep, one looking to the sky for rain, and two others. Signs below say what each is. Out in the center of the lake is a much larger figure of a swimmer. This is a mirror lake, creating perfect reflections of the clouds and surrounding trees. The salinity of the lake has created fascinating and beautiful patterns of salt crystals on the shore, especially over toward the swimmer. When we were there, a group of happy rose-breasted cockatoos greeted us, chattering away in the treetops. This was far cooler than we expected and we were so glad we took the few minutes to stop.

Don't go here for the statues as there aren't many and those that exist seem really have deteriorated. But it is an amazing place to be, and worth stopping to eat your sandwich or drink your coffee. Bring a towel and perhaps a large bottle of water, then you can go in for a paddle

This place is sooooo cool! Definitely worth a stop by It's a bit out from anywhere and you don't really know it's there unless you're looking for it but it's really cool to stop at and take photos

Make sure you bring water and some snacks as it is a fairly long drive back to Menzies (which is a lovely little town-great coffee and food at the Achievable outback cafe) and has a good display in the tourist info office about the statues/rocks and local I suggest going there first so you know what you are looking at. The salt lake can be a little clay like to walk on so have spare shoes to get back in the car. When we were there it was firm enough that someone had had a wheelchair out there. Take hats and sunscreen if you plan to walk...

Just a sticky, muddy dam with a large simple, wire statue in the water that’s visible from the road, and 3 or 4 smaller ones beside it.

I’d recommend a quick photo of the larger one from the roadside if you’re passing by. But you wouldn’t be missing much if you skipped even that. And the simple little ā€˜statues’ that are further in aren’t really special enough for the extra walk, let alone the mud clay that’ll take half a day to get off your shoes.

More interesting things to see in other parts...
