When you leave the tar and enter the dirt road, it gets worse the further you go. 4wd only is an absolute must and experienced! Some of the road has deep ruts and water washouts that are not deep (after light rain) but the clay bottoms are very sticky. We ended up parking and walking the last 1 km to the falls as the road was almost impassable for us, we are not 4wd enthusiasts. If you wanted to get experience and deliberately go onto the worse of the track to see if you can get stuck and test your skills then this is definitely the place for you. A car can get you to the concrete causeway on Bang Bang Creek but I would recommend 4WD if you want to drive the remaining 1.8km of dirt track to the dam wall to shorten the walk. A 10 minute walk along the walking path from the dam wall will take you to the foot of the falls. Great swimming location.
There are large boil holes in the bedrock on top of the falls that are worth the effort to walk up to see.
The only downside is the amount of broken glass bottles at the falls. Use caution when bringing kids.

People should really take there rubbish with them when they leave really annoys me. Places like this will get closed to the public if we dont look after them, which would be a real shame.
