I took my 3 daughters today. It took nearly 90-120 minutes to drive one way from where we live. Therefore I will not be able to return as it is too far. The animals are really living in 5 star luxury which is great to see. All volunteers love being there. There is a 3 legged cow, goat with no eye, goat with no hooves on one side, pig missing an ear etc. It is great to see so many happy animals. It would of been nice to see the new calf that you just received not be alone. I know it will be placed with other animals in the next few days. We just thought the calf could join the lambs etc for company. The two guides gave a lot of information about the background of the animals. My only advice is the beginning and the end of the tour. I have never been there before, there were signs. But it would of been good to have the two guides arrive 10 minutes before the tour started, showed us where to wait, do small talk of where we come from etc, say we are waiting for the rest of the group, tick our names off a list etc. But we wait in a room by ourselves, the guides showed up a few minutes late and then the tour started. At the end of the tour they nicely said they rely on donations. Thank you for coming, then it was like they power walked off. It would of been nice for them to say 'We are available to answer as many questions as you want'. Because they disappeared the volunteer near the cats with the gray hair was happy to talk to us about the cats etc. Besides that it was a...
Read moreEdgar's mission is such a beautiful place, the staff are so knowledgeable and clearly love the work they do. The grounds are gorgeous and so well maintained.
The whole ethos of Edgars mission is beautiful & the story is truely inspiring, the way the staff/guide walks you though the grounds telling you the story of all the animals is perfect and very engaging. Seeing all those animals who have been through such a tough life now having the time of their lives would warm the coldest of hearts.
I left Edgars mission wanting to make a change and wanting to make sure that my personal choices help stop create an environment where animals need to be rescued from the cruelty of humans. I left feeling that way not because I was guilted but because of the beautiful way the staff manage to tell each animals journey and show the impacts of humans treating animals with such little respect and dignity.
At the end of the tour we got to meet the beautiful loveable Ruby, we spent the good part of 30 minutes giving her belly rubs and getting kisses and it really summarised just how much love these animals have and how shameful it is that we as humans can so easily discard or mistreat them out of convenience.
Thank you Edgars mission for the amazing work you do, its inspiring and has 100% made me reevaluate my personal choices, if everyone did the same these animals wouldn't need to be rescued and could live happy and healthy lives.
Remember: Be...
Read moreI thought I like to write about my heart broken experience with Edgar's mission. I'd like to acknowledge Edgers mission first and how they've saved so many animals lives, it's blown me away. Unfortunately not in my experience. On 15th September 2024 we caught an injured Muscov duck from our local park we regularly visit. We call him Mr big. Mr big was the gentleman of the lake. He was like the mascot of all the birds in the park, however he'd been shot with gun pellets, his right leg was injured and he lost some weight, otherwise he was a very healthy duck. That afternoon we spoke to the lovely volunteers at EM and we understood he would be checked that afternoon by one of the new bird vets. I took Mr big's favourite food in a big bag and donated some money. I completely trusted them that no animal be killed there but saved and found out 4 days later Mr big died with the vets instructions he was put on heavy morphine. Unfortunately his heart couldn't handle the morphine, I did not understand why Mr big was kept at Edgar's mission until he died. My initial understanding he was going to be transferred to highly experience birds specialists to have a surgery but instead of surgery he was kept there with a new and inexperienced vet . I think they could have done more to save his life. Edgers mission are great but it depends on which vet a poor animal comes across. I regret taking Mr big there, I felt...
