What a wonderful and respectful memorial for the fallen soldiers who left this small town to fight (and die) in WW1. Such a tragic loss for this small community. The trees were planted in honour of their fallen sons, and have since died. But rather than remove the trees, they made these amazing statues. Each statue has a plaque and a descriptive story for each fallen soldier. It left my wife and I feeling sad but honoured to have visited the site. This memorial was kept in immaculate condition and it is heart warming that these men have never been forgotten and will always be revered. Please, if you are passing by, visit this...

The Legerwood carvings are the result of the trees planted in approx 1916 being diseased. The trees were all planted as memorials for those who died in WW1.

When the trees were found to be diseased, the community came together to stand against them being cut down and destroyed. It was pushed for the stumps and lower branches to be preserved by carving or chain sawing sculptures related to the soldiers or war time heroins.

They were sculpted and preserved with a lacquer and are a proud memorial...

As everyone says, please come see it in person to appreciate its beauty, craftsmanship, and historical Australian significance.

This is a fabulous tribute to our Anzacs and local heroes who died from this town. As a returned Veteran myself, reading the written tributes & plaques of each person gave me goosebumps. Then you look at the faces depicted in the carvings, and it makes it even more real. Fantastic...
