Overall wines where pretty decent, some big reds for the Orange region. However extremely disappointed with the service and attitude from the owner. We booked for 7 and asked if we could have a picnic whilst tasting, lady on the phone was very nice and accommodating and said no worries at all. During the day, 1 of our guests fell ill and could not taste. After pre paying we called up asking if we could get a refund for that person or a credit to a purchase, and the lady was very nice and said that is fine.
When we arrived we said we would probably purchase a few bottles, so we can take that refund off our purchases, and the lady said no problem.
After our tastings we went down to purchase a few bottles, then the owner said no to the refund of any sort, and said that we had brought our own picnic and had a good time, so no to any refunds. Which was quite disappointing to hear after asking about it twice, once on the phone and once in person. We understand that they have a business to run, and would off understood the no refund, however being told twice that the refund was possible and the way the owner addressed us, came off rude and quite disappointing. Our group has been doing wine tours at least twice a year for the past 6 years to various regions around Australia, and we have never come across that experience before. Do not know what we did to deserve that treatment, but it left a sour taste to the end of our trip to Orange.
Plenty of other wineries in the area with better wines, with more professional and...
Read moreWe stayed for 3 nights with our two dogs in a 23ft caravan. Cargo Winery is easy to find outside Orange. James and Katie were great hosts. Wine tasting is available for $20 per person. They have a large variety of wines to sample. Even if you are not staying it is worth a visit. There are various camping sites spread around the grounds. Most are on the same level at the office/tasting rooms. The site we had was called Wedding. It is in the lowers section, access is via a dirt track. If it rains it does become a bit slippery, as we found out. Thanks to James for assistance in getting us out. Dogs are welcome both at your campsite and the tasting rooms where there is a lovely balcony to taste the wines and enjoy the views. Fires are allowed in raised fire pits, you can hire one if you donât have one. This is a great place to stay in the middle of wine country. We would not hesitate to recommend...
Read moreGood quality and interesting wines marred by disappointing wine tasting experience. A few minutes into booked wine tasting on the balcony overlooking the vineyard and beautiful view, a tractor just 2m next to the balcony started its engine which blew black diesel smoke all over us. The tractor engine continued to roar for the entire 1 hour duration of the tasting so we retreated indoors, which was ok but not what had expected. The noise of the tractor engine continued to be an intrusive presence inside the building. We bought some very good wines but sadly our memories of this will be of the noisy tractor which should never have been allowed to run its engine during...
